Drink water from your own well—share your love only with your wife.
_____

Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.

Morning Reading: Romans 13:11-13 (NLT)

Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.

Prayer

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, the high priest of our faith: you have called us to share the life of God. You are our Savior and our God.

+ Almighty King, you have made us a royal priesthood – may we offer you a constant sacrifice of praise.
+ Help us to keep your commandments – so that through your Holy Spirit we may dwell in you, and you in us.
+ Everlasting Wisdom, come to us – dwell with us and work in us today.
+ Help us to be considerate and kind – grant that we may bring joy, not pain, to those we meet.

As the day unfolds, Lord, look with favor on us and, in your saving love, let your light penetrate the hidden places of our hearts. May no sordid desires darken our minds, renewed and enlightened as we are by your heavenly grace. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise!

Sick Bulldog

Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.

But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

Morning Reading: 2 Thessalonians 3:10-13 (NLT)

Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”

idle minds

Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business. We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living. As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.

Prayer

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, in whom is the fullness of grace and the Spirit of God. Thank you for all your blessings.

+ Lord, give us your Spirit – that we may have peace of mind and generosity of heart
+ Lord, give us your Spirit – that we may have health and strength to do your will.
+ Lord, give us your Spirit – that we may be enfolded in your love throughout the day.
+ Lord, give us your Spirit – that we may be guided in our work throughout the day.
+ Lord, give us your Spirit – that we may pray for those in need in accordance with your will.

Almighty God, our Father, give us your Spirit and grant that we may come to the Kingdom of heaven and to the glory destined for your children. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

child looking forward

But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.

And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.

And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved.

Prayer

God’s gift was not a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power and love, and self-control. With complete confidence we pray: Father, send us your Spirit.

+ Send us your Spirit – that Christ may be born again today in the hearts of all mankind.
+ Send us your Spirit – that we may open the eyes of the blind and proclaim the Good News of light and life.
+ Send us your Spirit – that we may live peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in your sight.
+ Send us your Spirit – that our homes be the pledge of a world redeemed.

Lord God: Keep our eyes focused on the new world filled with your righteousness that you have promised us, and may we live expectantly as children of the light. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Sentence

I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, through a belief in the Threeness, through a confession of the Oneness of the Creator of creation.

Morning Reading: Galatians 2:19-20 (NLT)

christ in me

For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Prayer

Christ is the image of the unseen God, the first-born of all creation, and the first to be born from the dead. All things are to be reconciled through him because he made peace by his death on the cross.

+ Lord Jesus, we have been baptized into your death: cleanse us of greed and envy, and clothe us in the strength and gentleness of your love.
+ Lord Jesus, we have been sealed with the Holy Spirit who has been given to us: confirm us in your service, and help us to bear witness to you in the society in which we live.
+ Lord Jesus, you continue to work in your faithful people: create through us a new world where injustice and destruction will give way to growth, freedom and hope.
+ Lord Jesus, come to us today: bestow a full measure of your grace on us as we come to you in prayer.

Lord God, as you work within us to keep us in the path of righteousness, console us in this present life and grant us eternal joys in the next.

Morning Reading: Proverbs 2:12-15 (NLT)

Wisdom will save you from evil people, from those whose words are twisted. These men turn from the right way to walk down dark paths. They take pleasure in doing wrong, and they enjoy the twisted ways of evil. Their actions are crooked, and their ways are wrong.

Morning Reading: Romans 8:18-21 (NLT)

Jesus is our freedom

Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay.

Prayer

Our Lord, Jesus Christ, greeted us with good news: may the world hear it through us, and find hope. Holy is your name.

+ We praise and thank you, Lord of heaven and earth; you are the hope and joy of mankind in every age.
+ Deliver us from evil people, with their twisted words and crooked ways; may we walk in the light as you are in the light.
+ We pray for Christians who suffer for their belief: sustain them in their hope and provide for them in their distress.

Holy is your name, Lord. Transform us by a true understanding of salvation, so that, freed from fear and from the power of our foes, we may serve you faithfully all the days of our life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
