Tuesday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Sentence

Create a clean heart within me, O God,
so that it may become Your chosen shelter
and the resting place of the Holy Spirit.
__________

Reading: Psalm 64:8-10 (NLT)

Their own tongues will ruin them, and all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.

Then everyone will be afraid; they will proclaim the mighty acts of God and realize all the amazing things he does. The godly will rejoice in the Lord and find shelter in him. And those who do what is right will praise him.
__________

Reading: Isaiah 56:10-12 (NLT)

For the leaders of my people—the Lord’s watchmen, his shepherds—are blind and ignorant. They are like silent watchdogs that give no warning when danger comes. They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming. Like greedy dogs, they are never satisfied. They are ignorant shepherds, all following their own path and intent on personal gain.

“Come,” they say, “let’s get some wine and have a party. Let’s all get drunk. Then tomorrow we’ll do it again and have an even bigger party!”
__________

Reading: 2 Thessalonians 3:10-13 (NLT)

Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”

Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business. We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living. As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.
__________

Prayer:

Today is Your gift to me; I take it, Lord, from Your hand and thank You for the wonder of it.

+ All that I am and all that I do, I place into Your hands.
+ Everything I work and hope for, I place into Your hands.
+ The troubles that weary me and the thoughts that disturb me, I place into Your hands.

Show me what blessing it is that I have work to do. And sometimes, and most of all when the day is overcast and my courage faints, let me hear Your voice, saying, “You are my beloved one in whom I am well pleased.” Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

Like our ancestors, we have sinned. We have done wrong! We have acted wickedly! Our ancestors in Egypt were not impressed by the Lord’s miraculous deeds. For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.
