A Season of Thanksgiving

__________

Morning Reading: Habakkuk 3:1-2, 12-19 NLT

This prayer was sung by the prophet Habakkuk:

I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. And in your anger, remember your mercy.
_____

I will wait quietly for the coming day when disaster will strike the people who invade us. Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!

The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.
__________

Morning Reading: Ephesians 2:13-16 NLT

But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.

For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death.
__________

Prayer:

Father, we praise You for Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ; through the Holy Spirit He offered himself in sacrifice to You, that we might be delivered from death and selfishness, and be free to live in Your peace.

+ We accept this new day as Your gift, Lord; grant that we may live in newness of life.
+ You made all things, and keep all things in being; give us the discernment to see Your hand at work in them all.
+ Your Son sealed the new and everlasting covenant in His blood; help us to live by this covenant and honor it.
+ You sent Your Spirit that we might bear witness to You; pour out Your Spirit upon us that we might bless others.
+ And, Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.

Almighty God, as in this morning prayer we offer You our praise, grant that in Your kingdom, together with Your saints, we may praise You with even greater joy. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too. So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.

O nations of the world, recognize the Lord; recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong. Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his courts. Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor. Let all the earth tremble before him. Tell all the nations, “The Lord reigns!” The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. He will judge all peoples fairly.

Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice! Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise! Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! Morning Reading: Romans 8:35-37 NLT

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
__________

Prayer:

Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ: Stay with us, Lord Jesus, and listen to the cries of our hearts.

+ In all things we are victorious through Your love – take us into Your care today.
+ Fill us with Your Holy Spirit – so that we may overflow with Your love and consecrate this day to You.
+ Help all believers to answer Your call – so that we may be salt to the earth and light to the world.
+ Help us in our daily activities and work – that we may work in harmony with others for justice and for the good of the whole community.
+ Help those who are experiencing trouble, calamity, persecution, hunger, impoverishment, danger, or threatened with death – comfort them and assure them of Your love in palpable, recognizable ways today.

Shed Your clear light on our hearts, Lord, so that walking continually in the way of Your commandments we may never be deceived or misled. Bless us today, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Morning Reading: Psalm 65 NLT

What mighty praise, O God, belongs to you in Zion. We will fulfill our vows to you, for you answer our prayers. All of us must come to you. Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all. What joy for those you choose to bring near, those who live in your holy courts. What festivities await us inside your holy Temple.

Forgiven - overwhelmed no more
Forgiven – overwhelmed no more

You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our savior. You are the hope of everyone on earth, even those who sail on distant seas. You formed the mountains by your power and armed yourself with mighty strength. You quieted the raging oceans with their pounding waves and silenced the shouting of the nations. Those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of your wonders. From where the sun rises to where it sets, you inspire shouts of joy.

You take care of the earth and water it, making it rich and fertile. The river of God has plenty of water; it provides a bountiful harvest of grain, for you have ordered it so. You drench the plowed ground with rain, melting the clods and leveling the ridges. You soften the earth with showers and bless its abundant crops. You crown the year with a bountiful harvest; even the hard pathways overflow with abundance. The grasslands of the wilderness become a lush pasture, and the hillsides blossom with joy. The meadows are clothed with flocks of sheep, and the valleys are carpeted with grain. They all shout and sing for joy!

But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.
__________

Prayer:

Bless our Savior, Jesus Christ, who by His rising to new life has freed the world from fear. Lord, lead us to the truth.

+ Lord Jesus, as this day begins we remember that You are risen, and therefore we look to the future with confidence.
+ Lord Jesus, we offer You our prayer this morning, take to Yourself our cares, our hopes, and our needs.
+ Lord Jesus, deepen in us our love for You today, so that in all things we may find our good, and the good of others.
+ Lord Jesus, we pray that through our own troubles, we may learn to feel the sufferings of others; help us to show them Your compassion.
+ Lord Jesus, bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.

Heavenly Father, the source and origin of all fatherhood, You kept the martyrs of past and present faithful to the cross of your Son even to the shedding of their blood. By the power of Your Word and Spirit, enable us to spread Your love among our brothers and sisters, that we may be called and may truly be Your children. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Like a deer that longs for springs of water, so my soul longs for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, the living God: when shall I come and stand before the face of God?

My tears are my food, by day and by night, and everyone asks, “where is your God?”. I remember how I went up to your glorious dwelling-place and into the house of God: the memory melts my soul. The sound of joy and thanksgiving, the crowds at the festival.

Why are you so sad, my soul, and anxious within me? Put your hope in the Lord, I will praise him still, my savior and my God.

My soul is sad within me, and so I will remember you in the lands of Jordan and Hermon, on the mountain of Mizar. Deep calls to deep in your rushing waters: and all your torrents, all your waves have flowed over me.

By day the Lord sends his kindness upon me; by night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life. I will say to God: “You are my support, why have you forgotten me? Why must I go in mourning, while the enemy persecutes me?.” As my bones break, my persecutors deride me, all the time saying “where is your God?.”

Why are you so sad, my soul, and anxious within me? Put your hope in the Lord, I will praise him still, my savior and my God.

Prayer:

Christ has given us all a share in His priesthood. Lord, accept our love and service.

+ Lord Jesus, You are love itself: grant that we may love You as You have loved us.
+ Lord Jesus, You have given us Your Holy Spirit: display in us today the fruit of patience, kindness and gentleness.
+ Lord Jesus, You see the needs of our neighbors and know the Father’s will: give us discernment and courage to be instruments of His loving-kindness to those around us.

Almighty Lord and God, protect us by Your power through the course of this day, even as You have enabled us to begin it. Do not let us turn aside to any sin, but let our every thought, word and deed aim at doing what is pleasing in Your sight. Bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.
