After Pentecost| Saturday – 09 July 2022: Psalm 82; Amos 2:12-3:8; John 3:16-21 ~ Jesus saved the world from judgement!

After Pentecost| Saturday – 09 July 2022

+ In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening:

Grant us, O Lord, we pray,
the spirit to think and do always those things that are right,
that we, who can do no good thing apart from you,
may, by you, be enabled to live according to your will;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

God sent his Son into the world
not to judge the world,
but to save the world through him.
(John 3:17)

Psalms Reading: Psalm 82Poor Bishop Hooper

god has taken his place
presiding over heaven’s court
in the midst of the gods he holds judgment

how long will you give unjust decisions
how long will you favor the wicked

give your justice to the weak and fatherless
come rescue the poor and the helpless
deliver them deliver them deliver them

arise o god and judge the earth
for the nations are yours
for the nations are yours

OT Reading: Amos 2:12-3:8 (NLT)

2:12 “But you caused the Nazirites to sin by making them drink wine,
and you commanded the prophets, ‘Shut up!’

“So I will make you groan
like a wagon loaded down with sheaves of grain.
Your fastest runners will not get away.
The strongest among you will become weak.
Even mighty warriors will be unable to save themselves.
The archers will not stand their ground.
The swiftest runners won’t be fast enough to escape.
Even those riding horses won’t be able to save themselves.
On that day the most courageous of your fighting men
will drop their weapons and run for their lives,”
says the Lord.

Listen to this message that the Lord has spoken against you, O people of Israel—against the entire family I rescued from Egypt:

“From among all the families on the earth,
I have been intimate with you alone.
That is why I must punish you
for all your sins.”

Witnesses against Guilty Israel

2:3 Can two people walk together
without agreeing on the direction?
Does a lion ever roar in a thicket
without first finding a victim?
Does a young lion growl in its den
without first catching its prey?
Does a bird ever get caught in a trap
that has no bait?
Does a trap spring shut
when there’s nothing to catch?
When the ram’s horn blows a warning,
shouldn’t the people be alarmed?
Does disaster come to a city
unless the Lord has planned it?

Indeed, the Sovereign Lord never does anything
until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets.

The lion has roared—
so who isn’t frightened?
The Sovereign Lord has spoken—
so who can refuse to proclaim his message?

NT Reading: John 3:16-21 (NLT)

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”

Prayer: ACNA | BCP2019

+ O God, without whose beauty and goodness our souls are unfed, without whose truth our reason withers: Consecrate our lives to your will, giving us such purity of heart, such depth of faith, and such steadfastness of purpose, that in time we may come to think your own thoughts after you; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

+ O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light rises up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what you would have us do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices; that in your light we may see light, and in your straight path we may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
