+ In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening:

O Lord God, grant me grace to withstand the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil, and with a pure heart and mind to follow you, the only God; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Sovereign Lord says: “I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people.
I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live.”
(Ezekiel 33:11)

Preparation:

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of my heart by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that I may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ my Lord. Amen.

 “The presence of God is the joy of his people, but any suspicion of his absence is distracting beyond measure. . . . It is not the trouble, but the hiding of our Father’s face, which cuts us to the quick.” (Spurgeon)

Q: Have you ever cried out to God when you were in trouble? What happened? Did God intervene on your behalf?

Q: Have you ever experienced a time of trouble when God didn’t intervene on your behalf? What happened?

Q: Do you believe that God is with you, and for you, when you are in trouble – even though you may feel alone?

Q: Do you believe that God will ultimately judge evil, wicked, mean, bad. nasty people?

Q: How would you feel if God chose to save them instead?

Prayer:

+ For the Unrepentant

Merciful God, you desire not the death of sinners, but rather that they should turn to you and live; and through your only Son you have revealed yourself as the God who pardons iniquity. Have mercy on the unrepentant and those who do not believe, especially those wicked, nasty people roaming the streets of this country. Awaken in them, by your Word and Holy Spirit, a deep sense of their sinfulness and peril. Take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and contempt of your Word. Grant them to know and feel that there is no other Name under heaven given among men by which they must be saved, but only the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. And so bring them home and number them among your children, that they may be yours for ever; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Wisdom

Respect and obey the Lord! This is the beginning of wisdom. To have understanding, you must know the Holy God. I am Wisdom. If you follow me, you will live a long time.

Stupidity

Stupidity is reckless, senseless, and foolish. She sits in front of her house and on the highest hills in the town. She shouts to everyone who passes by, “If you are stupid, come on inside!” And to every fool she says, “Stolen water tastes best, and the food you eat in secret tastes best of all.” None who listen to Stupidity understand that her guests are as good as dead.

Consider:  Our core values shape how we live our lives. Different values produce different results. Our actions have consequences.

Wise people fear the Holy God; they know God through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. They respect and obey God as guided by His Word and Spirit. They live full, satisfying lives now and forever.

Stupid people reject the Holy God, and His Son, Jesus Christ. They live reckless, senseless, and foolish lives, without any thought to the consequences for themselves or others. They are “as good as dead.”

Q: Can you think of times when you have done something stupid? What happened?

Q: What kind of lives are the people around you living – wise/stupid? How does that affect you?

Q: On balance, how would you describe the life you’re living now – full, satisfying / as good as dead?

Most loving Father, you will us to give thanks for all things, to dread nothing but the loss of you, and to cast all our care on the One who cares for us. Wisdom Speaks

I am Wisdom—Common Sense is my closest friend; I possess knowledge and sound judgment….

From the beginning, I was with the Lord. I was there before he began to create the earth. At the very first, the Lord gave life to me. When I was born, there were no oceans or springs of water. My birth was before mountains were formed or hills were put in place. It happened long before God had made the earth or any of its fields or even the dust.

I was there when the Lord put the heavens in place and stretched the sky over the surface of the sea. I was with him when he placed the clouds in the sky and created the springs that fill the ocean. I was there when he set boundaries for the sea to make it obey him, and when he laid foundations to support the earth. I was right beside the Lord, helping him plan and build. I made him happy each day, and I was happy at his side. I was pleased with his world and pleased with its people.

Pay attention, my children! Follow my advice, and you will be happy. Listen carefully to my instructions, and you will be wise. Come to my home each day and listen to me. You will find happiness. By finding me, you find life, and the Lord will be pleased with you. But if you don’t find me, you hurt only yourself, and if you hate me, you are in love with death.

David wondered why such a big, great God would be mindful of such small beings.

Three essential truths about humanity:
when these truths are denied or neglected, man is never what God made him to be.

– God made man in His image.
– God made man the crown of His creation.
– God made man the ruler over His creation.

 Ezekiel as Israel’s Watchman

Once again a message came to me from the Lord: “Son of man, give your people this message: ‘When I bring an army against a country, the people of that land choose one of their own to be a watchman. When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people. Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action, it is their own fault if they die. They heard the alarm but ignored it, so the responsibility is theirs. If they had listened to the warning, they could have saved their lives. But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. Correcting Another Believer

Repentance:
