Morning Prayer: 17 November – Psalm 33:12-32; Romans 13:11, 12-13 ~ hope in the Lord, live in the light

A Season of Thanksgiving

Morning Prayer

+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening sentence

Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds.
__________

Morning Reading: Psalm 33:12-22 NLT

What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.

Flag and prayer

The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory — for all its strength, it cannot save you.

But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine.

We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.
__________

Morning Reading: Romans 13:11, 12-13 NLT

This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

JP II Light of Christ

The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.

Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.
__________

Prayer:

– You, O Lord, are our Savior and our God.

Almighty King, You have baptized us, and made us a royal priesthood: may we offer You a constant sacrifice of praise. Help us to keep Your commandments; so that through Your Holy Spirit we may dwell in You, and You in us. Everlasting Wisdom, come to us: dwell with us and work in us today. Help us to be considerate and kind; grant that we may bring joy, not pain, to those we meet. Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

– You, O Lord, are our Savior and our God.

Canticle

Christ, as a light illumine and guide me. Christ, as a shield overshadow me. Christ under me; Christ over me; Christ beside me on my left and my right. This day be within and without me, lowly and meek, yet all-powerful. Be in the heart of each to whom I speak; in the mouth of each who speaks unto me. This day be within and without me, lowly and meek, yet all-powerful. Christ as a light; Christ as a shield; Christ beside me on my left and my right.

Blessing

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you, wherever He may send you. May He guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May He bring you home rejoicing at the wonders He has shown you. May He bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.

+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow….

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.
__________

Morning Reading: Galatians 2:19-20 NLT

When I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law — I stopped trying to meet all its requirements — so that I might live for God. My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
__________

Prayer: Christ is the image of the unseen God, the first-born of all creation, and the first to be born from the dead. All things are to be reconciled through him because he made peace by his death on the cross.

– Lord Jesus, come to us today.

We have been baptized into Your death: may we be cleansed of greed and envy, and clothed in the strength and gentleness of Your love. We have been sealed with the Holy Spirit who has been given to us; confirm us in Your service, and help us to bear witness to You in the society in which we live. You continue to work in Your faithful people: create through us a new world where injustice and destruction will give way to growth, freedom and hope.

– Lord Jesus, come to us today.

Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song. Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful.

O Israel, rejoice in your Maker. O people of Jerusalem, exult in your King. Praise his name with dancing, accompanied by tambourine and harp. For the Lord delights in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. Let the faithful rejoice that he honors them. Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds.

Let the praises of God be in their mouths, and a sharp sword in their hands — to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, to bind their kings with shackles and their leaders with iron chains, to execute the judgment written against them. This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones.

Praise the Lord!

Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Prayer:

Father, give us Your strength.

Turn our eyes to Jesus Christ Your Son. May He lead us in our journey that we might become like Him. We pray for cheerfulness and a generous heart; may we bring joy to our homes, to our work, and to all whom we meet. We pray for all who are working today; be with them at home and in the city, in the factory and in the fields. We pray for those who have no work; we pray for the disabled and the sick, for those who cannot find work, and for those who are retired.

Father, give us Your strength.
