+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen

Opening prayer:

Gracious Father,
whose blessed Son Jesus Christ
came down from heaven to be the true bread
which gives life to the world:
Evermore give us this bread,
that he may live in us, and we in him;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

“He has rescued us
from the kingdom of darkness.”
(Colossians 1:13)

From the Psalms: Psalm 146 – Poor Bishop Hooper

praise the lord oh my soul
i will praise him all my life
i’ll sing praises to my god
i’ll sing praises ’til i die

don’t put your trust in princes
don’t put your trust in son of man
in them there’s no salvation
when they die so do their plans

the lord brings forth justice
he feeds the hungry
he opens blind eyes
he sets the prisoners free
the lord lifts those who are down
he loves the righteous
he sees the foreigner
he upholds the fatherless

blessed is he whose help is god
whose hope is in the lord alone
the god who made heaven and earth
the lord remains faithful forever faithful

the lord brings forth justice
he feeds the hungry
he opens blind eyes
he sets the prisoners free
the lord lifts those who are down
he loves the righteous
he sees the foreigner
he upholds the fatherless

the lord will reign forever forever
the lord will reign forever
praise the lord

praise the lord oh my soul
i will praise him all my life
i’ll sing praises to my god
i’ll sing praises ’til i die

OT Reading: Isaiah 42:14-21 (NLT)

42:14 He will say, “I have long been silent;
yes, I have restrained myself.
But now, like a woman in labor,
I will cry and groan and pant.
+ I will level the mountains and hills
and blight all their greenery.
I will turn the rivers into dry land
and will dry up all the pools.
+ I will lead blind Israel down a new path,
guiding them along an unfamiliar way.
I will brighten the darkness before them
and smooth out the road ahead of them.
Yes, I will indeed do these things;
I will not forsake them.
+ But those who trust in idols,
who say, ‘You are our gods,’
will be turned away in shame.

Israel’s Failure to Listen and See

49:18 “Listen, you who are deaf!
Look and see, you blind!
+ Who is as blind as my own people, my servant?
Who is as deaf as my messenger?
Who is as blind as my chosen people,
the servant of the Lord?
+ You see and recognize what is right
but refuse to act on it.
You hear with your ears,
but you don’t really listen.”

+ Because he is righteous,
the Lord has exalted his glorious law.

NT Reading: Colossians 1:9-14 (NLT)

1:9 So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.

+ We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

Prayer: ACNA | BCP 2019

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, our heavenly Father, you manifested your love by sending your only-begotten Son into the world, that all might live through him: Pour out your Spirit on your Church, that we may fulfill his command to preach the Gospel to all people. Send forth laborers into your harvest; defend them in all dangers and temptations; and hasten the time when the fullness of the Gentiles shall be gathered in, and faithful Israel shall be saved; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer: ACNA | BCP2019

+ O God, you desire that all people be saved and come to knowledge of the truth: Prosper all those who live, preach, and teach the Gospel at home and in distant lands; protect them in all perils, support them in their loneliness, sustain them in the hour of trial; give them your abundant grace to bear faithful witness; and endue them with burning zeal and love, that they may turn many to righteousness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

+ Almighty God our Savior: Grant that our hearts may ache for a lost and broken world. May your Holy Spirit work through our words, deeds, and prayers, that the lost may be found and the dead made alive, and that all your redeemed may rejoice around your throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

+ O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light rises up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what you would have us do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices; that in your light we may see light, and in your straight path we may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
