Morning Reading: James 5:1-6 (NLT)

On the road in Dubai.
On the road in Dubai.

Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you. Your wealth is rotting away, and your fine clothes are moth-eaten rags. Your gold and silver are corroded. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh like fire. This corroded treasure you have hoarded will testify against you on the day of judgment. For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. The cries of those who harvest your fields have reached the ears of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter. You have condemned and killed innocent people, who do not resist you.

Morning Prayer

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do. God have mercy on me, forgive me my sin, and bring me to everlasting life through Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord.
_____

Eternal Father, it is by your gift of life that I can praise you: the wonder of my making is only surpassed by the splendor and joy of my coming to life in Christ.

+ Lord, be with me as I start a new day: move my heart to seek you and my will to serve you.
+ Deepen my awareness of your presence: teach me reverence and love for all that you made.
+ To know you is to love those you created: let my life and my work be of service to all.

Almighty, ever-living God, shed the light of your glory on the peoples who are living in the shadow of death, as you did long ago, when our Lord Jesus Christ, the Sun of Justice, came among us from on high. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Morning Prayer: 11 June – James 4:13-17 ~ like the morning fog

Morning Reading: James 4:13-17 (NLT)

girl in the fog

Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog — it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.

Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.

Morning Prayer

God is love: he who dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him. In Jesus Christ we see how God loves us.

+ You have given us life and light this morning – thank you for such great gifts.
+ You are sole master of the future – keep me from despair and the fear of what is to come.
+ Love has no ambition to seek anything for itself – strengthen my will to give up selfishness today.
+ Your love in us can overcome all things – let there be no limit to my faith, my hope, and my endurance.

Lord God, in your wisdom you created me, by your providence you rule me: penetrate my inmost being with your holy light, so that my way of life may always be one of faithful service to you. Through my Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Blessing

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Morning Prayer: 04 June – James 4:1-10 ~ friend or foe?

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Sentence

May I never boast except in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me and I to the world. (Galatians 6:14)

Morning Reading: James 4:1-10 (NLT)

What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.

humble yourself 2

You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him. And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

Morning Prayer

By shedding his blood for us, Christ gathered together a new people from every corner of the earth. Lord Jesus, be mindful of your people.

+ Christ, our king and redeemer: help us to know your power and your love.
+ Christ, our hope and courage: sustain us throughout the day.
+ Christ, our refuge and strength: fight with us against our weakness.
+ Christ, our joy and solace: stay with the poor and lonely.

Almighty God, to whom this world with all its goodness and beauty belongs, give us grace joyfully to begin this day in your name and to fill it with an active love for you and our neighbor. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Book of Life

If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

Morning Prayer

In Jesus Christ, God has shown us the beauty of human life and work. Lord, give me wisdom to meet the challenges ahead.

+ I bless you, Lord, for bringing me to this day – thank you for protecting my life and giving me what I need.
+ Be with me, Lord, as I take up my daily tasks – help me to remember that it is in your world I live and work.
+ You have called me to serve you responsibly in the world – help me to build a just, Christian society.
+ Stay with me and with everyone I meet this day – let me give your joy and your peace to the world.

King of heaven and earth, Lord God, rule over my heart and body this day. Sanctify me, and guide my every thought, word and deed according to your wisdom from above, so that now and for ever your grace may free and save me. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Jesus Blesses the Children

child praying

One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.

When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.

“Lord, listen to your children praying”

Prayer (Child-like Faith)
