Morning Reading: Psalm 77 (NLT) (A Psalm of Asaph)

I cry out to God; yes, I shout. Oh, that God would listen to me! When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven, but my soul was not comforted. I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help. Interlude

You don’t let me sleep. I am too distressed even to pray! I think of the good old days, long since ended, when my nights were filled with joyful songs. I search my soul and ponder the difference now. Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me? Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion? Interlude

And I said, “This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.” But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.

O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you? You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations. By your strong arm, you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Interlude

When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths. The clouds poured down rain; the thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed. Your thunder roared from the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world! The earth trembled and shook. Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters—a pathway no one knew was there! You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.

“Psalm 77” (Lament) – Fellowship Worship [Seth shares a song of lament birthed out of Psalm 77 and walking through the process of both his family’s failed adoption and his friend’s ongoing struggle in a successful adoption.]

I cry aloud to God
aloud to God and He will hear me
In the day of my troubled soul I reach out and seek You,
Lord but I can’t feel You

In the night of my pain
darkness falls, questions rage
Have You forsaken?
O God, have You left me all alone?

You keep my eyes from sleep
so troubled I cannot speak a word
I consider the days of old
when I felt Your love and held Your hope
Where have they gone?

In the night of my pain
faith has fled, doubts remain
Have you forsaken?
O God, have You left me all alone?

Your ways, O God Your ways, O God, are holy Holy
Your ways, O God Your ways, O God, are holy You are holy

Reflection & Prayer

Proverbs 28:2 (NLT)When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily. But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.

Sovereign Lord: Heal our land; make us one nation under Your rule and reign –

+ that wise, godly, leaders may rise up and restore our unity and stability

+ that the poor may receive assistance and equal justice under the law

+ that business dealings may be honest and open to scrutiny

+ that young and old may respect the law, and evildoers punished

+ that all may trust You, confess their sins, turn from them, and receive mercy

+ that the godly may prosper, hate corruption, and have along life

+ that hard, trustworthy, work may be rewarded with success

Sovereign Lord: Raise up wise and knowledgeable leaders, who will accept honest criticism and put their trust in You; that your people may live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity – through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You in unity with the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Only Doing Our Duty: Lessons for the Christian Life from the Falklands War Commander Admiral Sir John Woodward
Only Doing Our Duty: Lessons for the Christian Life from the Falklands War Commander
Admiral Sir John Woodward

“When a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep, does his master say, ‘Come in and eat with me’? No, he says, ‘Prepare my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you can eat later.’ And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not. In the same way, when you obey me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’”

Prayer

Commit your way to the Lord. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. Do not fret – it only leads to evil.

+ Lord, what is Your gift to me? And do I use it to Your pleasing?
+ Lord, You alone know what my soul truly desires, and You alone can satisfy those desires.

Lord, show me the right seat, find me the fitting task, give me the willing heart… when duty calls.

“Finish Well” – Berean Bible Baptist Church Choir, Paranaque, Philippines

There will come a day | I know without a doubt | Around the throne the saints will bow | And lay down every crown | How glorious that moment | To see Him face to face | To hear Him say “well done my child” | You’ve finished your race | But for now the sun’s still rising | There’s work to still be done | While we’re waiting for the promise | Of what is yet to come.

Finish well | Every day that we are given | Finish well | For the glory of His name | Finish strong | Until the Savior finally calls us home | Give it everything we have | Finish well.

There’s no truth in saying | We’ve seen our better days | These are the days to be courageous | Bold and full of faith | So wherever He may lead us | Whatever it may cost | Let the Church arise and lift | The banner of the cross.

Blessing

May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ go with you, wherever He may send you. May He guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May He bring you home rejoicing at the wonders He has shown you. May He bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
