Pentecost| 2nd Tuesday – 14 June 2022: Psalm 124; Proverbs 8:4-21; Ephesians 5:15-20 ~ Living in the Spirit’s power.

Pentecost| 2nd Tuesday – 14 June 2022

+ In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening:

O Lord, from whom all good proceeds: Grant us the inspiration
of your Holy Spirit, that we may always think those things that
are good, and by your merciful guidance may accomplish the
same; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with
you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Be filled with the Holy Spirit,
singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves,
and making music to the Lord in your hearts.
(Ephesians 5:18b-19)

OT Reading: Proverbs 8:4-21 (NLT)

8:4 “I call to you, to all of you!
I raise my voice to all people.
You simple people, use good judgment.
You foolish people, show some understanding.
Listen to me! For I have important things to tell you.

    • Everything I say is right,
      for I speak the truth
and detest every kind of deception.
    • My advice is wholesome.
There is nothing devious or crooked in it.
    • My words are plain to anyone with understanding,
      clear to those with knowledge.
    • Choose my instruction rather than silver,
and knowledge rather than pure gold.
    • For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies.
Nothing you desire can compare with it.

“I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment.
I know where to discover knowledge and discernment.

    • All who fear the Lord will hate evil.
Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance,
      corruption and perverse speech.
    • Common sense and success belong to me.
      Insight and strength are mine.
    • Because of me, kings reign,
      and rulers make just decrees.
    • Rulers lead with my help,
      and nobles make righteous judgments.

“I love all who love me.
Those who search will surely find me.

    • I have riches and honor,
as well as enduring wealth and justice.
    • My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold,
my wages better than sterling silver!
    • I walk in righteousness,
      in paths of justice.
    • Those who love me inherit wealth.
      I will fill their treasuries.

NT Reading: Ephesians 5:15-20 (NLT)

5:15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

bestowed upon us:

  • For the beauty and wonder of your creation, in earth and sky
    and sea,
    We thank you, Lord.
  • For our daily food and drink, our homes and families, and our
    friends,
    We thank you, Lord.
  • For minds to think, and hearts to love, and hands to serve,
    We thank you, Lord.
  • For health and strength to work, and time to rest and worship,
    We thank you, Lord.
  • For all who are patient in suffering and faithful in adversity,
    We thank you, Lord.
  • For all who earnestly seek after truth, and all who labor for
    justice,
    We thank you, Lord.
  • For all that is good and gracious in the lives of men and women,
    revealing the image of Christ,

  • For the communion of saints, in all times and places,
    We thank you, Lord.

+ Above all, we give you thanks for the great mercies and promises

and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
