Morning Prayer, Saturday, 31 Oct 2020
+ In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Opening:
Almighty and everlasting God, you govern all things both in heaven and on earth: Mercifully hear the prayers of your people, and in our time grant us your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
“O be joyful in the LORD, all you lands;
serve the LORD with gladness, and come before his presence with a song.”
(Psalm 100:1)
Preparation:
Holy Spirit, breath of God and fire of love, I cannot pray without your aid: Kindle in me the fire of your love, and illumine me with your light; that with a steadfast will and holy thoughts I may approach the Father in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ my Lord, who reigns with you and the Father in eternal union. Amen.

“Psalm 100”
1 O be joyful in the LORD, all you lands; *
serve the LORD with gladness, and come before his presence with a song.
2 Be assured that the LORD, he is God; *
it is he that has made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
3 O go your way into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; *
be thankful unto him, and speak good of his Name.
4 For the LORD is gracious, his mercy is everlasting, *
and his truth endures from generation to generation.

Consider:
“O be joyful in the LORD, all you lands;
serve the LORD with gladness, and come before his presence with a song.”
(Psalm 100:1)
Our happy God should be worshipped by a happy people; a cheerful spirit is in keeping with his nature, his acts, and the gratitude which we should cherish for his mercies. In every land the LORD’s goodness is seen, therefore in every land should he be praised.
He is our Lord, and therefore he is to be served; he is our gracious Lord, and therefore to be served with joy…. Singing, as it is a joyful, and at the same time a devout, exercise, should be a constant form of approach to God.

Prayer
+ Accept, O Lord, my thanks and praise for all that you have done for me. I thank you for the splendor of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love. I thank you for the blessing of my family and friends, and for the loving care which surrounds me on every side. I thank you for setting me at tasks that demand my best effort, and for leading me to accomplishments that satisfy and delight me. I thank you also for those disappointments and failures that lead me to acknowledge my dependence on you alone. Above all, I thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of his Word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame temptation; for his dying, through which he conquered death; and for his rising to life again, in which I am raised to the life of your kingdom. Grant me the gift of your Spirit, that I may know Christ and make him known; and through him, at all times and in all places, may give thanks to you in all things. Amen.
+ Lord Jesus, be mindful of your promise. Think of me, your servant, and when I shall depart, speak to my spirit these loving words: “Today you shall be with me in joy.” O Lord Jesus Christ, remember me, your servant who trusts in you, when my tongue cannot speak, when the sight of my eyes fails, and when my ears are stopped. Let my spirit always rejoice in you and be joyful about my salvation, which you, through your death, have purchased for me. Amen.
+ Hasten, O Father, the coming of your kingdom; and grant that I your servant, who now lives by faith, may with joy behold your Son at his coming in glorious majesty; even Jesus Christ, my only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.
