Morning Reading & Prayer: Wed, 18 Oct – Proverbs 31 ~ more than just a pretty face

Morning Reading & Prayer

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening – (Northumbria Community)

One thing I have asked of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; to behold the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.

Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory.

Reading Excerpts & Prayer

Proverbs 31:11-12 (NLT)“Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”

Ephesians 5:33 (NLT)“Each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”

Proverbs 31:30-31 (NLT)Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

Heavenly Father – Thank you for your gift of marriage, and forgive us the mess we’ve made of it – in our own lives, and in our society.

We have not loved you as you have loved us; we have not loved our spouses as ourselves; and we have not submitted ourselves to one another. Lord, have mercy on us.

Empty us of our pride and give us servant hearts – that we may be trustworthy in our commitments, and steadfast in our encouragement and support for one another – enriching  and bringing our spouses good all the days of our lives.

I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Blessing – (Northumbrian Community)

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you, wherever He may send you. May He guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May He bring you home rejoicing at the wonders He has shown you. May He bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
