Morning Reading & Prayer

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening – (Northumbria Community)

One thing I have asked of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; to behold the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.

Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory.

Reflection & Prayer

The Dangers of the Last Days

2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NLT)You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

All Scripture is Inspired by God

2 Timothy 3:14-17 (NLT)But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Preach the Word of God

2 Timothy 4:1-4 (NLT)I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when he comes to set up his Kingdom: Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.

For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths.

2 Timothy 4:22 (NLT)May the Lord be with your spirit. And may his grace be with all of you.
__________

Lord God: We are living in difficult times, and your church is under great stress and persecution around the world. I pray for those you have raised up to lead your people –

+ that they would be humble and reverent, placing the good of your people above their own personal gain.
+ that they would exemplify love and forgiveness and self-control, even towards those who would do them harm.
+ that they would love what is good and right, and speak and act only in the power of the Holy Spirit.
+ that they would remain faithful to the truth and wisdom revealed through the holy Scriptures.
+ that they would preach the Word of God which leads to salvation that comes by trusting in Jesus Christ.
+ that they would always be prepared to patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people to do what is right.

Lord God: You have assured us that the gates of hell will not prevail against your church. May it be so – through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
