Morning Prayer: Tue, 18 Oct – Psalm 119:105-112; Isaiah 30:20-21; Hebrews 4:12-13 ~ naked accountability

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Sentence

I have come to seek You, O God, just as I am I come. I have come to be sought by You, just as I am I come.

I will wait for the Lord. My soul waits, and in His word do I hope.

Reading:Psalm 119:105-112 (NLT)

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations. I have suffered much, O Lord; restore my life again as you promised.

Lord, accept my offering of praise, and teach me your regulations. My life constantly hangs in the balance, but I will not stop obeying your instructions. The wicked have set their traps for me, but I will not turn from your commandments. Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight. I am determined to keep your decrees to the very end.

Reading: Isaiah 30:20-21 (NLT)

Though the Lord gave you adversity for food and suffering for drink, he will still be with you to teach you.

You will see your teacher with your own eyes. Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.

Reading: Hebrews 4:12-13 (NLT)

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.

Prayer (Piran – in following, sixth century)

Call me to follow You, and I will obey Your truth. Always keep me faithful.

+ When failure spreads a cloud of gloom above me, and fogs of apathy confuse my every step, and when endless drifts of drizzle douse the barely glowing embers of my faith,

Lord, relight the fire!

When the demands of life encroach on quiet moments, when pressures grind my spirit into dust, when time dries up like water in a desert, and prayer is pushed into mere words like dried-up husks,

Lord, kindle the flame!
