+ From the desire of being honored …
+ From the desire of being praised …

+ From the fear of being calumniated …
+ From the fear of being forgotten …
+ From the fear of being ridiculed …
+ From the fear of being wronged …
+ From the fear of being suspected …

That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

+ That others may be esteemed more than I …
+ That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease …
+ That others may be chosen and I set aside …
+ That others may be praised and I unnoticed …
+ That others may be preferred to me in everything…
+ That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should…

O Jesus! empty me of me, and fill me with you…

Monday of the Fifth Week of Lent

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Almighty God, you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners: Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of this world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Reading: John 10:27-28 (NLT)

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me….
__________

Reading: Luke 15:1-7 (NLT)

Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them!

So Jesus told them this story: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!
__________

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, you sent your Son to seek and save the lost – sheep without a shepherd.

Hear the cries of our hearts for our lost loved ones – our sons and daughters, our brothers and sisters, our mothers and fathers, our friends and neighbors, the known and the nameless, those both near us and far from our shores.

Call them by name and bring them home to yourself – convict them of sin, and unrighteousness, and grant them a spirit of repentance and saving faith.

And Lord, give us confidence, clarity and courage to share the Good News of what you have done for us with those you have prepared to listen.

We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
