Praying the Psalms

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening – (Northumbria Community)

One thing I have asked of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; to behold the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.

Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory.

Morning Reading: Psalm 103 (NLT)A psalm of David.

Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.

  • He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.
  • He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
  • He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
  • The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly.
  • He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.

The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

  • He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.
  • He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.

For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.

  • The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
  • For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.
  • Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die.
  • The wind blows, and we are gone—as though we had never been here.
  • But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him.
  • His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments!

The Lord has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything.

Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will! Praise the Lord, everything he has created, everything in all his kingdom.

Let all that I am praise the Lord.

Reading: Isaiah 58:11-12 (NLT)

The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.

Reading: Philippians 4:10-13 (NLT)

How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me. Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
__________

Prayer:

Heavenly Father: You have adopted us into your family, and through the ages have stayed with us and kept us in your steadfast love. Lord, help us in our work and prayer – as “rebuilders of walls and a restorers of homes.”

+ We pray for all who rebuild and restore cities: give them wisdom and respect for every family, every life – both rich and poor.
+ Pour out your Spirit on artists, craftsmen, and musicians: may their work bring variety, joy, and inspiration to our lives.
+ Be with us as the cornerstone of all that we build: for we are only dust and can do nothing without your guidance and strength.
+ You have created us anew in the resurrection of your Son: rebuild and restore the spiritual life of broken cities through that same resurrection power.

Heavenly Father, we praise you with our whole heart and give thanks for all you are doing and will do. Life itself is your precious gift, may all we have and all we are be yours. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
