Morning Prayer: 02 March – Matthew 5:17-19 ~ law-abiding citizens

Wednesday of the Third Week of Lent

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Sentence

Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.
(Isaiah 55:6)

Morning Reading: Matthew 5:17-19 (NLT)

law-of-god

“Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Morning Prayer

Blessed be Christ my Savior. In him I become a new creation, the old order passes away and all things are renewed. Lord, renew me in your Spirit today.

+ Forgive my sins and set me free from all of my evil inclinations.
+ May I begin this day with the end in mind and live as a citizen of heaven.
+ Keep me focused on the things that really matter in this world of confusion.
+ Deliver me from apathy that I may joyfully recognize the power you have given me.
+ Fill me now with your Spirit that I may be a messenger of justice, mercy and peace.

Lord God: nourish me on your word and renew me in your Spirit that I may joyfully serve you and live wholeheartedly as a citizen of your Kingdom. Through my Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

“Lord Reign In Me” – Brenton Brown

Closing Sentence

Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously. (Isaiah 55:7)

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Opening sentence and prayer:

Blessed be Christ my Saviour. In Him I become a new creation, the old order passes and all things are renewed. Renew me, Lord, in Your Spirit.
_____

You promised us, Lord, a new heaven and a new earth; renew me in Your Spirit, that I may come to the new Jerusalem and rejoice in You for ever. May I work with You to fill the world with Your Spirit in justice, charity and peace. Grant that I may put aside my apathy; help me to recognize with joy the power You have given me. Set me free from all evil; show me in the confusion of my life the things that really matter. Through my Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

A Reading from the Old Testament: Deuteronomy 4:1, 5-9 (NLT)

“And now, Israel, listen carefully to these decrees and regulations that I am about to teach you. Obey them so that you may live, so you may enter and occupy the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you.
__________

Reading-with-grandma

“Look, I now teach you these decrees and regulations just as the Lord my God commanded me, so that you may obey them in the land you are about to enter and occupy. Obey them completely, and you will display your wisdom and intelligence among the surrounding nations. When they hear all these decrees, they will exclaim, ‘How wise and prudent are the people of this great nation!’ For what great nation has a god as near to them as the Lord our God is near to us whenever we call on him? And what great nation has decrees and regulations as righteous and fair as this body of instructions that I am giving you today?

“But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.
__________

Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life; you have the words of everlasting life. (see John 6:63,68)

Canticle

Christ, as a light illumine and guide me. Christ as a shield overshadow me. Christ under me; Christ over me; Christ beside me on my left and my right.

This day be within and without me, lowly and meek, yet all-powerful. Be in the heart of each to whom I speak; in the mouth of each who speaks unto me. This day be within and without me, lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.

Christ as a light; Christ as a shield; Christ beside me on my left and my right.

Blessing:

May the Lord Christ go with you, wherever He may send you. May He guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May He bring you home rejoicing at the wonders He has shown you. May He bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.

+ In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen
