Praying the Psalms

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening – (Northumbria Community)

One thing I have asked of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; to behold the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.

Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory.

Morning Reading: Psalm 149 (NLT)

Praise the Lord!

Sing to the Lord a new song. Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful.

O Israel, rejoice in your Maker. O people of Jerusalem, exult in your King. Praise his name with dancing, accompanied by tambourine and harp. For the Lord delights in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. Let the faithful rejoice that he honors them. Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds.

Let the praises of God be in their mouths, and a sharp sword in their hands—

  • to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples,
  • to bind their kings with shackles and their leaders with iron chains,
  • to execute the judgment written against them.

This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones.

Praise the Lord!

Morning Prayer

O Lord our God: Hear the praises of Your people filled with joy and hope –

+ for You rescue us from bondage and restore our freedom…
+ for You call us to worship and rejoice in your presence…
+ for You delight in our praise and provide for our welfare…
+ for You lift up the lowly and honor the afflicted…
+ for You provide rest for our souls, now and forever…

O Lord our God: Hear the praises of Your people filled with joy and hope – for You have defeated the devil and his minions through the life, death, and resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Let our praise at His unpretentious Birth be a declaration of His victorious Return to judge the living and the dead with righteousness and truth – all to Your glory. Amen.

“Psalm 149” (I’m Gonna Fight) – Brent Jones

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, be in their mouth
And a two edged sword in their hand

To execute vengeance (to execute vengeance)
Upon the heathen (upon the heathen)
Punishment and judgment (punishment and judgment)
Upon the people (upon the people)

Praise is my weapon, I’m gonna fight

To bind their kings with chains and their nobles
with fetters of iron
I’m gonna fight

The devil is defeated
When I praise the Lord

I’m gonna fight

Reading Excerpts

Song of Solomon 5 (NLT) – Oh, lover and beloved, eat and drink! Yes, drink deeply of your love!

I slept, but my heart was awake, when I heard my lover knocking and calling: “Open to me, my treasure, my darling, my dove, my perfect one. My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night.”

But I responded, “I have taken off my robe. Should I get dressed again? I have washed my feet. Should I get them soiled?”

My lover tried to unlatch the door, and my heart thrilled within me.

I jumped up to open the door for my love, and my hands dripped with perfume. My fingers dripped with lovely myrrh as I pulled back the bolt. I opened to my lover, but he was gone! My heart sank. I searched for him but could not find him anywhere. I called to him, but there was no reply….

Make this promise, O women of Jerusalem—If you find my lover, tell him I am weak with love….

Song of Solomon 6 (NLT) – I am my lover’s, and my lover is mine.

You are beautiful, my darling…. Yes, as beautiful as Jerusalem, as majestic as an army with billowing banners….

Even among sixty queens and eighty concubines and countless young women, I would still choose my dove, my perfect one—the favorite of her mother, dearly loved by the one who bore her….

“Who is this, arising like the dawn, as fair as the moon, as bright as the sun, as majestic as an army with billowing banners?”

“Comfort Ye My People” by Lamb – Joel Chernoff Messianic Jewish Music

No more will you turn to another for help | Nor will you turn to yourself, to yourself | Nor will you say, “Our God” to some other | For in Me you’ll find mercy, wo-o-o-o

I will heal your wrong ways | I will love you so freely | You will dwell beneath my shadow | I will be as the dew to my people | And they will blossom as the lilly, wo-o-o-o

Your beauty will be like the olive tree | Your fragrance as Lebanon, Lebanon | You will live as a well watered garden | And you will flourish like the vine, wo-o-o-o

I will heal your wrong ways | I will love you so freely | You will dwell beneath my shadow | I will be as the dew to my people | And they will blossom as the lilly, wo-o-o-o
