After Pentecost | Tuesday 02 Jun: Psalm 29; Job 39:13-25; 1 Corinthians 12:4-13 ~ The Holy Spirit enables us to help each other.

After Pentecost | Tuesday 02 Jun

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen

Opening prayer:

O God,
the strength of all who put their trust in you:
Mercifully accept our prayers, and because,
through the weakness of our mortal nature,
we can do no good thing without you,
grant us the help of your grace to keep your commandments,
that we may please you in will and deed;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

“A spiritual gift is given to each of us
so we can help each other.”
(1 Corinthians 12:7)

OT Reading: Job 39:13-25 (NLT)

39:13 “The ostrich flaps her wings grandly,
but they are no match for the feathers of the stork.
+ She lays her eggs on top of the earth,
letting them be warmed in the dust.
+ She doesn’t worry that a foot might crush them
or a wild animal might destroy them.
+ She is harsh toward her young,
as if they were not her own.
She doesn’t care if they die.
+ For God has deprived her of wisdom.
He has given her no understanding.
+ But whenever she jumps up to run,
she passes the swiftest horse with its rider.

39:19 “Have you given the horse its strength
or clothed its neck with a flowing mane?
+ Did you give it the ability to leap like a locust?
Its majestic snorting is terrifying!
+ It paws the earth and rejoices in its strength
when it charges out to battle.
+ It laughs at fear and is unafraid.
It does not run from the sword.
+ The arrows rattle against it,
and the spear and javelin flash.
+ It paws the ground fiercely
and rushes forward into battle when the ram’s horn blows.
+ It snorts at the sound of the horn.
It senses the battle in the distance.
It quivers at the captain’s commands and the noise of battle.

NT Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:4-13 (NLT)

12:4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.

12:7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

One Body with Many Parts

12:12 The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.

Come Holy GhostCatholic Music Initiative – Dave Moore, Lauren Moore

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest,
And in our hearts take up thy rest;
Come with thy grace and heav’nly aid
To fill the hearts which thou hast made;
To fill the hearts which thou hast made.

O Comforter, to thee we cry,
Thou heav’nly gift of God most high;
Thou font of life and fire of love,
And sweet anointing from above;
And sweet anointing from above.

Praise be to thee, Father and Son,
And Holy Spirit, with them one;
And may the Son on us bestow
The gifts that from the Spirit flow;
The gifts that from the Spirit flow.

Prayer: ACNA | BCP 2019

Almighty and eternal God, so draw our hearts to you, so guide our minds, so fill our imaginations, so control our wills, that we may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated to you; and then use us, we pray, as you will, and always to your glory and the welfare of your people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. | William Temple

O God, without whose beauty and goodness our souls are unfed, without whose truth our reason withers: Consecrate our lives to your will, giving us such purity of heart, such depth of faith, and such steadfastness of purpose, that in time we may come to think your own thoughts after you; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

O God, our heavenly Father: Pour out your Spirit on your Church, that we may fulfill Christ’s command to preach the Gospel to all people. Send forth laborers into your harvest; defend them in all dangers and temptations; and hasten the time when the fullness of the Gentiles shall be gathered in, and faithful Israel shall be saved; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
