“This I Believe” (The Creed) – Hillsong Kiev

Gospel Reading: Mark 10:35-45 (NLT)

Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came over and spoke to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do us a favor.”

“What is your request?” he asked.

They replied, “When you sit on your glorious throne, we want to sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left.”

But Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of suffering I am about to drink? Are you able to be baptized with the baptism of suffering I must be baptized with?”

“Oh yes,” they replied, “we are able!”

Then Jesus told them, “You will indeed drink from my bitter cup and be baptized with my baptism of suffering. But I have no right to say who will sit on my right or my left. God has prepared those places for the ones he has chosen.”

When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant. So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

“Are Ye Able,” Said the Master(십자가를 질 수 있나) – The choir of London Church

“Are ye able,” said the Master, “to be crucified with me?” “Yea,” the sturdy dreamers answered, “to the death we follow thee.”

Lord, make us able. Our spirits are thine. Remold them, make us, like thee, divine. Thy guiding radiance above us shall be a beacon to God, to love, and loyalty.

Are ye able to remember, when a thief lifts up his eyes, that his pardoned soul is worthy of a place in paradise?

Are ye able when the shadows close around you with the sod, to believe that spirit triumphs, to commend your soul to God?

Are ye able? Still the Master whispers down eternity, and heroic spirits answer, now as then in Galilee.

Praying the Psalms: Sat, 20 Oct – Psalm 97 ~ The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice!

Praying the Psalms

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening – (Northumbria Community)

One thing I have asked of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; to behold the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.

Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory.
__________

Morning Reading: Psalm 97 (NLT)

The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice! Let the farthest coastlands be glad.

Dark clouds surround him. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire spreads ahead of him and burns up all his foes. His lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness; every nation sees his glory. Those who worship idols are disgraced—all who brag about their worthless gods—for every god must bow to him. Jerusalem has heard and rejoiced, and all the towns of Judah are glad because of your justice, O Lord! For you, O Lord, are supreme over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.

You who love the Lord, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked. Light shines on the godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right. May all who are godly rejoice in the Lord and praise his holy name!
__________

Morning Prayer

O Lord our God: You are the High King of heaven and earth, over every tribe and nation, in every age the same –

+ the whole earth rejoices, even to its uttermost parts and scattered islands…
+ the whole earth displays your majesty and power in the lightning and thunder…
+ the whole earth awaits your righteousness and justice to be administered…

O Lord our God: In your Son, Jesus Christ, your Kingdom is “at hand,” and we declare “he reigns” –

+ subdue your enemies and purveyors of evil, now and forever…
+ silence the voices of deceivers and unbelievers, now and forever…
+ sustain your people to grow in purity and godliness, now and forever…

O Lord our God: Pour out your Spirit on your people, that we might live joyfully and fearlessly in the power of Jesus’ victory over sin and death, now and forever, for your Name’s sake. Amen.

Morning Reading: Psalm 96 (NLT)

Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Sing to the Lord; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods. The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made the heavens! Honor and majesty surround him; strength and beauty fill his sanctuary.

O nations of the world, recognize the Lord; recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong. Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his courts. Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor. Let all the earth tremble before him. Tell all the nations, “The Lord reigns!” The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. He will judge all peoples fairly.

Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice! Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise! Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! Let the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord, for he is coming! He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with his truth.

Morning Prayer

O Lord our God: We join with the voices of heaven and earth to praise your great Name –

+ for you reign over heaven and earth with justice and truth…

O Lord our God: Give us songs to sing, arising from our experience of your saving grace –

+ refresh in us the joy of sins forgiven, and new life begun…
+ refresh in us words to express your loving-kindness and mercy…
+ refresh in us an all-pervading spirit of worship throughout our day…
+ refresh in us the commission to go into all the world and make disciples…

O Lord our God: Give us new songs to sing to welcome Jesus, our coming King. Prepare our hearts to receive him at a moment’s notice for he comes to reveal your glory, and to judge the earth in righteousness and truth. It’s in his Name we pray. Amen.

Morning Reading: Psalm 95 (NLT)

Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him. For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods. He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains. The sea belongs to him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too.

Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today!

The Lord says, “Don’t harden your hearts as Israel did at Meribah, as they did at Massah in the wilderness. For there your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though they saw everything I did. For forty years I was angry with them, and I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.’ So in my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest.’”
__________

Morning Prayer

O Lord our God: To you belong our worship and joy-filled praise –

+ for you are the Rock of our salvation…
+ for you are our shade and defense…
+ for you are our home, our resting place…

O Lord our God: To you belong our reverence and awe –

+ for you reign supreme over the false gods of unbelievers…
+ for you reign supreme over the earth and all it contains…
+ for you have claimed us as your own, to watch over us…

O Lord our God: Still the tumult within us, that we may listen to your voice and be guided by your Word and Spirit. Strengthen us in Christ Jesus that we might walk in his way, and never know a day apart from you – it’s in his Name we pray. Amen.

Praying the Psalms

Opening – (Northumbria Community)

Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory.
__________

Morning Reading: Psalm 94 (NLT)

O Lord, the God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, let your glorious justice shine forth! Arise, O Judge of the earth. Give the proud what they deserve.

How long, O Lord? How long will the wicked be allowed to gloat?  How long will they speak with arrogance? How long will these evil people boast? They crush your people, Lord, hurting those you claim as your own. They kill  widows and foreigners and murder orphans. “The Lord isn’t looking,” they say, “and besides, the God of Israel doesn’t care.”

Think again, you fools! When will you finally catch on? Is he deaf—the one who made your ears? Is he blind—the one who formed your eyes? He punishes the nations—won’t he also punish you? He knows everything—doesn’t he also know what you are doing? The Lord knows people’s thoughts; he knows they are worthless!

Joyful are those you discipline, Lord, those you teach with your instructions. You give them relief from troubled times until a pit is dug to capture the wicked. The Lord will not reject his people; he will not abandon his special possession. Judgment will again be founded on justice, and those with virtuous hearts will pursue it.

Who will protect me from the wicked? Who will stand up for me against evildoers? Unless the Lord had helped me, I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave. I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side—leaders whose decrees permit injustice? They gang up against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the Lord is my fortress; my God is the mighty rock where I hide. God will turn the sins of evil people back on them. He will destroy them for their sins. The Lord our God will destroy them.
__________

Morning Prayer

O Lord our God: Give the wicked their just deserts, for they have persecuted the godly with their unbelief, foolishness and brutality.

+ in your mercy, use their evil intentions for our good….
+ in your mercy, provide us with respite for their oppression….
+ in your mercy, entrap the wicked in their own snares….

O Lord our God: Give justice to the godly, to those you claim as your own. Help us in our time of trouble, deliver us from evil and direct us on the path of Life through your Son, Jesus Christ, who reigns with you in unity with the Holy Spirit, God forever. Amen.
