Tuesday of 3rd Week of Easter, 02 May – John 6:30-35 ~ the bread of life

Tuesday of the Third Week of Easter

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Prayer

Lord our God, generous Father, you have given us your Son Jesus that we may relive with him and like him his passion and his resurrection. Through Jesus, give us the courage to place ourselves into your hands in the trials of life and in death, that one day we may see your glory and at your right hand your Son Jesus Christ, who lives with you for ever.

Reading: John 6:30-35 (NLT)

They answered, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do? After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! The Scriptures say, ‘Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

“Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.”

Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Reflection & Prayer:

“Give us today the food we need….” – Matthew 6:11 (NLT)

  • Thank you heavenly Father for providing for my daily temporal needs.

“I am the bread of life.” – John 6:35 (NLT)

  • Thank you Lord Jesus for providing for my eternal spiritual needs.

“The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” – John 6:63 (NLT)

  • Thank you gracious Holy Spirit for giving me eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. Continue your transforming work in me that I may become more like him.

Soli Deo gloria.

Monday of 3nd Week of Easter, 01 May – John 6:22-29 ~ your job is to believe

Monday of the Third Week of Easter

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Prayer

Our living God, we hunger for lasting life and happiness and the fulfillment of all our hopes. Satisfy all our hungers through your Son Jesus Christ, who is our bread of life. And when he has filled us with himself, may he lead and strengthen us to bring to a waiting world the food of reconciliation and joy, which you alone can give to the full. We ask this thorough Christ our Lord.

Reading: John 6:22-29 (NLT)

The next day the crowd that had stayed on the far shore saw that the disciples had taken the only boat, and they realized Jesus had not gone with them. Several boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the Lord had blessed the bread and the people had eaten. So when the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went across to Capernaum to look for him. They found him on the other side of the lake and asked, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”

They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?”

Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”
__________

Reflection & Prayer:

Lord Jesus: I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

As the week unfolds, help me to better understand the significance of my confession of faith.

+ Take me deeper into the mystery and wonder of who you are.

+ Satisfy the hunger of my soul with every Word that you speak.

+ Implant your Kingdom within me that it may become my heart’s desire.

+ Show me what it costs to follow you wherever you lead me.

Lord Jesus: you alone have the Words of eternal life; set my sights on the realities of heaven. My life is hidden in you – who lives and reigns with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.
