Opening Sentences

Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ fasted forty days in the wilderness, and was tempted as we are, yet without sin: give us grace to discipline ourselves in obedience to your Spirit; and, as you know our weakness, so may we know your power to save; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father: your watchful eye is caring for me. I am protected, safe, and free.

+ Watch over me when I am lonely, tired and worn.
+ Watch over me when I stumble and fall.
+ Watch over me when I am helpless, too weak to stand.

+ Watch over me day in and day out.

Thank you, heavenly Father: you hold me in safety, with comfort and care. You speak to me gently, I have nothing to fear. I am protected, safe, and free. Through my Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
