Morning Prayer: Thu, 09 Feb – Psalm 67:1-2; Proverbs 4:23-27; 1 Peter 5:5-7 ~ look straight ahead

Thursday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Sentence

Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship,
for they will walk in the light of your presence, Lord.

Reading: Psalm 67:1-2 (NLT)

May God be merciful and bless us. May his face smile with favor on us.

May your ways be known throughout the earth, your saving power among people everywhere.

Reading: Proverbs 4:23-27 (NLT)

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech.

Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.

Reading: 1 Peter 5:5-7 (NLT)

In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Merciful God: look with favor upon us today and bless us. Keep our eyes focused on Jesus, as He marks out a straight, safe path for us to follow. Protect us from the wiles and deceit of the evil one, through the power of Your indwelling Spirit. Display Your saving power in us and among people everywhere, that Your ways be known throughout the earth. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever. Amen.

“Psalm 67” – St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, St Andrews

You are the light of the world;
let your good deeds shine out for all to see,
so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!
