__________
Reading: Isaiah 56:10-12 (NLT)
For the leaders of my people—the Lord’s watchmen, his shepherds—are blind and ignorant. They are like silent watchdogs that give no warning when danger comes. They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming. Like greedy dogs, they are never satisfied. They are ignorant shepherds, all following their own path and intent on personal gain.
“Come,” they say, “let’s get some wine and have a party. Let’s all get drunk. Then tomorrow we’ll do it again and have an even bigger party!”
__________
Reading: 2 Thessalonians 3:10-13 (NLT)
Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”
Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business. We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living. As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.
__________
Prayer:
Today is Your gift to me; I take it, Lord, from Your hand and thank You for the wonder of it.
+ All that I am and all that I do, I place into Your hands.
+ Everything I work and hope for, I place into Your hands.
+ The troubles that weary me and the thoughts that disturb me, I place into Your hands.
Show me what blessing it is that I have work to do. And sometimes, and most of all when the day is overcast and my courage faints, let me hear Your voice, saying, “You are my beloved one in whom I am well pleased.” Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

Like our ancestors, we have sinned. We have done wrong! We have acted wickedly! Our ancestors in Egypt were not impressed by the Lord’s miraculous deeds. They soon forgot his many acts of kindness to them. Instead, they rebelled against him at the Red Sea. Even so, he saved them—to defend the honor of his name and to demonstrate his mighty power.
