Wednesday of 7th Week of Easter, 31 May – John 17:12-19 ~ keep us safe

Wednesday of the Seventh Week of Easter

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Prayer

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: we confess that we have sinned against you and against our neighbor. We are truly sorry and humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us.

Lord, God of heaven, look down and see your people who are in great trouble and distress. The evil one prowls this earth seeking to steal, kill, and destroy us. Protect us and deliver us from evil. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who live and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Reading: John 17:12-19 (NLT)

During my time here, I protected them by the power of the name you gave me. I guarded them so that not one was lost, except the one headed for destruction, as the Scriptures foretold.

“Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy. I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to this world any more than I do. Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.

Reflection & Prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ:

+ You have called us by name and we have followed you; we are your people, the sheep of your pasture. Thank you, Good Shepherd, our provider and protector.

+ You have chosen us to be your very own possession that we may show others your goodness. Thank you, Light of the world, for calling us out of the darkness into your wonderful light.

+ You have set us apart as temporary residents and foreigners in a hostile and unbelieving world. Thank you, Word of God, for teaching us and consecrating us in your truth.

+ You have given us your Spirit that we may lead honorable lives. Thank you, Spirit of Christ, for empowering us to live as citizens of your Kingdom – respecting everyone and loving the family of believers.

Lord our God: our rock, our fortress, our savior; protect us and keep us safe from the evil one.  Through Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Concluding Prayer – Psalm 18:2-3 (NLT)

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.

Morning Prayer: 20 May – Acts 20:28-38; John 17:11-19 ~ keep watch over yourselves

Wednesday of the Seventh Week of Easter

+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Opening sentence and prayer:

The Holy Spirit joins with our spirit in bearing witness that we are children of God.
_____

God of patience and encouragement: grant that we may agree with one another by following the example of Christ – united in mind and voice, let us glorify You. May I think of my brother’s good and strive to please him – enable me to strengthen his faith. Do not allow me to be led astray by the power of the Evil One – fill me instead with the Spirit who comes from You. Lord, You know everything that is in my heart – lead me in the ways of integrity and truth. Father, hear Your children. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

To the Ephesian Elders: Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

“Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

When Paul had finished speaking, he knelt down with all of them and prayed. They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him. What grieved them most was his statement that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.

demon locked within

I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

“I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

Canticle

Christ, as a light illumine and guide me. Christ as a shield overshadow me. Christ under me; Christ over me; Christ beside me on my left and my right.

This day be within and without me, lowly and meek, yet all-powerful. Be in the heart of each to whom I speak; in the mouth of each who speaks unto me. This day be within and without me, lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.

Christ as a light; Christ as a shield; Christ beside me on my left and my right.

Blessing:

May the Lord Christ go with you, wherever He may send you. May He guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May He bring you home rejoicing at the wonders He has shown you. May He bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.

+ In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen
