“What’s the Matter with Kids Tody?” – public education (re-blog)

bratPeanut Gallery: A new blog – Ooobie on Everything – has been brought to my attention and it’s well worth a read. The re-blog here speaks to the issue of how America got into our current mess – public education hijacked by leftists.

What’s the solution? Think homeschooling, or private schooling… yes, it’s that bad.

Here’s a sample of what Ooobie has to say about it –

The leftist infiltration of education as a primary means of spreading the faith has been underway for many generations, but it really went into high gear following the radicalization of the 60s generation. While most of that generation went on to pursue more lucrative fields, the real activists went into the classrooms. They knew that by indoctrinating today’s youth they controlled tomorrow’s politics. They could change the country fundamentally without ever setting off another bomb. And it worked perfectly, as propaganda always does when political debate is stifled and a compliant media endlessly amplifies the message. Such an environment puts the brain to sleep and supplants independent thought with militant slogans and threats of destruction to the old order. The teachers worked hand-in-glove with the union bosses, silencing, ostracizing and even punishing dissenters among the pedagogical ranks. The left took over curricula, faculty and administration. Opposing viewpoints need not apply. Our schools today are the enemies of intellectual discourse and the invigorating clash of ideas. Instead they toil to churn out mindless zombies, zealots of the left, masters of propaganda but ignorant of the reality of what they advocate.

I hope that quote encourages you to read the entire post here – and check out her most recent posts here. I particularly enjoyed her personal story recounted in her post “A Tale of Two Cities.” I’m looking forward to reading more.

Special thanks to Maggie at Maggie’s Notebook and NEO at nebraskaenergyobserver for bringing Ooobie to our attention. Please check out their blogs as well… there’s a lot of interesting reads… and plenty to think about.

“Abortion and Newtown: The Culture of Violence” – Jeffrey Lord (re-post)

Peanut Gallery: Is it unseemly to examine the statistics of innocents killed by abortion with innocents killed by gun violence? Is it inappropriate to note that the escalating “Culture of Violence” in America coincides with the legalizing of abortion nearly 40 yers ago… and suggest that they are linked?

Perhaps – I’ll let you be the judge.

But that’s what Jeffrey Lord has done in his excellent article re-posted below.  Please check out the original here… and the comments here.

Effectively, a startling shift blows in the political winds: Planned Parenthood is becoming the NRA of abortion.

Abortion and Newtown: The Culture of Violence

Mass shootings on rise since Roe v. Wade: Planned Parenthood as the NRA of Abortion?

The American Spectator By JEFFREY LORD on 12.18.12 @ 6:10AM

“The horrifying truth is this: we live now in a culture that not only does not respect life, but discards it like trash — not only at the beginning of life, but also at the end, and every place in between.

“What has happened to us?” — Catholic Deacon Greg Kandra

Monsignore Robert Weiss – Newtown, CT

Discards life like trash.

One does not have to be a Catholic, which I am not, to appreciate the irony today in the words above from over a year ago by a Catholic Deacon named Greg Kandra. (You can find the full text of Deacon Kandra’s remarks here.)

Since the demands for a national discussion about what caused Newtown are already flowing from President Obama, the New York Times, Washington Post and every liberal with tweetability, they should be respectfully yet candidly obliged.

And the very first issue to mention is what has become the great unmentionable in the world of liberalism, and alas too many other precincts as well — and to say it plainly and hopefully politely.

What went on in Newtown, Connecticut this past Friday — what has been going on at intervals for almost four decades in places like Portland, Oregon, Aurora, Colorado, Virginia Tech, and Columbine, Colorado and, sadly, elsewhere in America for some 39 years since January of 1973 is the wholesale discarding of human life like trash.

The perpetuation of a culture of violence in a society that has turned the protection of the most vulnerable —babies — into the unmentionable.

Now, with 20 innocents murdered in Newtown, it is time for someone to say what for millions is the obvious: the abortion movement’s chickens have come home to roost — again.

Will anything be done? Or will the politicians run and hide? Continue reading ““Abortion and Newtown: The Culture of Violence” – Jeffrey Lord (re-post)”

Egypt Votes: Islamic Dictatorship Wins

Egypt Democratically Adopts an Anti-Western Dictatorship

The victory in the referendum on the Constitution is the fourth straight Muslim Brotherhood success—including the overthrow of President Husni Mubarak’s regime with army assistance, the parliamentary election and the presidential election–in the process of taking over Egypt for the long-term and fundamentally transforming it into a radical Islamist state. This last one should be sufficient to go all the way. This event is also producing a new stage of Western rationalizations that whitewash the Muslim Brotherhood and rationalize support for Islamists being in power.

There are three factors involved here in setting Western policy: ignorance, a desire to avoid crises, and a foolish belief that having a radical regime in Egypt will moderate the extremists.

It isn’t that the constitution, as many Salafists would have liked, explicitly mandates a revolutionary Sharia state. Rather, the constitution sets up a framework that will allow the Brotherhood to do so. Between the president and the constitution, the Brotherhood will now march through every institution and remake it. Judges will be appointed; school curricula rewritten; army generals appointed; and so on. As the Brotherhood shows patience in carrying out this process of gaining total, permanent control, many in the West will interpret that as moderation.

“The problem with [President] Morsi isn’t whether he is Islamist or not, it is whether he is authoritarian,” said a Western diplomat in Cairo. Wow, talk about Western misunderstanding of the importance of ideology.
