+ In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening:

Almighty and everlasting God, you govern all things both in heaven and on earth: Mercifully hear the prayers of your people, and in our time grant us your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

With his own right hand and with his holy arm, he has won for himself the victory.”

Preparation:

Holy Spirit, breath of God and fire of love, I cannot pray without your aid: Kindle in me the fire of your love, and illumine me with your light; that with a steadfast will and holy thoughts I may approach the Father in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ my Lord, who reigns with you and the Father in eternal union. Amen.

The work of our redemption and salvation by Christ is a work of wonder – a “marvelous thing”.

Consider:

Love and hate spring up from out of our hearts. A redeemed heart is conformed to the heart of Christ.

The LORD hates evil – his fire consumes it, his lightnings blast it, his presence shakes it out of its place, and his glory confounds all the lovers of it.

We cannot love God without hating that which he hates.

We cannot be like God unless we love what he loves, and hate what he hates.

Consider:

Tell it out among the nations, “The LORD is King;
it is he who has made the world so firm that it cannot be moved;
he shall judge the peoples righteously.”
(Psalm 96:10)

This is the best news that can be given to the nations. Society is safe where God is king, no revolutions shall convulse his empire, no invasions shall disturb his kingdom.

A settled government is essential to national prosperity, the reign of the god of truth and righteousness will promote this to the highest degree. Sin has shaken the world, the reign of Jesus will set it fast again upon sure foundations.

Sing and give thanks to the Lord

It is good ethically, for it is the Lord’s right

It is good emotionally, for it is pleasant to the heart

It is good practically, for it leads others to render the same homage

Our personal experience has confirmed us in the belief that it is good to sing unto the Lord; we have often felt like Luther when he said, “Come, let us sing a psalm, and drive away the devil.”

Give thanks to God our Father for all his gifts so freely
