One thing I have asked of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; to behold the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.

Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory.

Morning Reading: Psalm 14 (NLT)

Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!

The Lord looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one!

Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to the Lord. Terror will grip them, for God is with those who obey him. The wicked frustrate the plans of the oppressed, but the Lord will protect his people.

Who will come from Mount Zion to rescue Israel? When the Lord restores his people, Jacob will shout with joy, and Israel will rejoice.

Lord our God: Save us from this godless, corrupt generation; give us wisdom –

+ That our motives might be pure in all we do
+ That we might love you with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength
+ That we might seek your face in the morning when we arise, throughout the day, and in the evening when we go to bed

O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever?

How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

Turn and answer me, O Lord my God!

Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die. Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him! Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall.

But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.
I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.

Lord our God: Our lives are in your hands; replace our despair with hope in your unfailing love – a hope that will never disappoint us. Amen.

Morning Reading: Psalm 12 (NLT)

Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth!

Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts. May the Lord cut off their flattering lips and silence their boastful tongues. They say, “We will lie to our hearts’ content. Our lips are our own—who can stop us?”

The Lord replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.”

The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land.

Morning Prayer

Lord our God: Protect us from this lying generation, the god of lies is enthroned on our national heart. Raise up people of the Book who will declare your Word of promise and uphold the cause of the godly.

+ For the godly are disappearing from our land…. Protect us Lord.
+ For the spirit of falsehood has infested our relationships…. Protect us Lord.
+ For lying and deceit are pervasive throughout our media…. Protect us Lord.

Lord our God: You are our hope and consolation; your faithfulness never ends, and your promises are true.

+ Hear our prayers and petitions, conform them to your will…. Hear us Lord.
+ Teach us to rely on your promises, without disclaimers…. Teach us Lord.
+ Defend us even when wickedness and evil seem to prevail…. Defend us Lord.

Lord our God: Protect us from this lying generation. Show us what we must say and do; show us how to live godly lives that honor you. Amen.

Who will be master over us?”

I have seen violence done to the weak
The groans of the wretched too crushed to speak I have heard

Morning Reading: Psalm 11 (NLT)

I trust in the Lord for protection.

So why do you say to me, “Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety! The wicked are stringing their bows and fitting their arrows on the bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those whose hearts are right. The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?”

But the Lord is in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth.

The Lord examines both the righteous and the wicked. He hates those who love violence. He will rain down blazing coals and burning sulfur on the wicked, punishing them with scorching winds.

For the righteous Lord loves justice. The virtuous will see his face.

Lord our God: Give us the courage required to face the dangers and difficulties of our times with confident determination –

+ That we may ignore the advice of fearful people
+ That we may ignore the advice of depressed people
+ That we may stand firm in the face of imminent danger
+ That we may stand firm in the face of godless mockers

Lord our God: We place our trust in you, our all-sufficient Helper –

+ For you are the King of the universe, ruling over our times
+ For you see everything that’s going on, you examine every motive
+ For you love the godly and loathe the wicked
+ For you will exercise a righteous retribution on the wicked

Lord our God: Whom shall we fear, when you reign Supreme? We place our trust in you. Amen.

In the Lord is my protection | In the Lord I place my trust
So why do you say ‘Off to the hills’ | Like a bird flies for safety
Why do you say?

For look the wicked bend back their bow
They fix to the string their arrow
They shoot from the gloom at the upright

When the foundations are gone | What can the righteous do?
When law and order collapse | What can the righteous do?

Morning Reading: Psalm 10 (NLT)

O Lord, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble?

The wicked arrogantly hunt down the poor. Let them be caught in the evil they plan for others. For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the Lord.

The wicked are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead. Yet they succeed in everything they do. They do not see your punishment awaiting them. They sneer at all their enemies. They think, “Nothing bad will ever happen to us! We will be free of trouble forever!”

  • Their mouths are full of cursing, lies, and threats.
  • Trouble and evil are on the tips of their tongues.
  • They lurk in ambush in the villages, waiting to murder innocent people.
  • They are always searching for helpless victims. Like lions crouched in hiding, they wait to pounce on the helpless. Like hunters they capture the helpless and drag them away in nets.
  • Their helpless victims are crushed; they fall beneath the strength of the wicked.

The wicked think, “God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”

Arise, O Lord! Punish the wicked, O God! Do not ignore the helpless! Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, “God will never call us to account.” But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans.

Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is destroyed. The Lord is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land. Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.

Morning Prayer

Righteous God: Hear the cries of the helpless, and bring justice to the orphans and oppressed. Punish the wicked –

  • They imagine themselves to be above all restraint, above the Law.
  • They boast in their evil ways and are accountable to no one.
  • They feel secure in their positions of power and authority.
  • They are full of deceit and and violence against the innocent.
  • They are cruel and ravenous; they believe that you don’t care.
  • They despise you, O Lord, and defile your name.

Righteous God: You are the hope of the helpless and the defender of the forlorn; do not disappoint them. Free them from all terror and violence –

  • For you are King for ever and ever, nothing can overturn your will.
  • For the triumph of your righteousness is a forgone conclusion.

Righteous God: Finish the good work you have begun as we await for your coming in power – to destroy all wickedness and establish your Kingdom, on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

Catch them in the schemes they devise
