5th Sunday of Easter, 14 May – John 14: 1-12 ~ i will follow Him

Fifth Sunday of Easter

+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Prayer

Almighty God, whom truly to know is everlasting life: Grant us so perfectly to know your Son Jesus Christ to be the way, the truth, and the life, that we may steadfastly follow his steps in the way that leads to eternal life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Reading: John 14: 1-12 (NLT)

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”

“No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”

Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.

Reflection & Prayer:

Lord Jesus: you are the only way to the Father and, by your grace, you have claimed me as your own. My hope is in you alone; you will never leave me or forsake me. In you I have found rest for my soul.

+ You are the Way; you find me when I become lost; you direct me when I become confused; you walk me through my problems and difficulties.

+ You are the Truth: you embody the ultimate mystery of reality; you existed before all things, all things hold together in you.

+ You are the Life: you transform my life from within; your presence fills me with confidence and overflowing joy;  in you I live and move and have my being.

Lord Jesus: you have prepared a place in eternity for all of us. Use me to connect others with you that they too may come home to the Father – who lives with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

“I Will Follow Him” – André Rieu

I will follow him, follow him wherever he may go | That near him I always will be | For nothing can keep me away | He is my destiny

I will follow him | Ever since he touched my heart I knew | There isn’t an ocean too deep | A mountain so high it can keep, keep me away | Away from his love

I love him, I love him, I love him | And where he goes I’ll follow, forever, and ever | And side by side together, I’ll be with my true love | And share a thousand sunsets together beside him

Concluding Prayer – Excerpts Psalm 42-43 (NLT)

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God!

Each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.

You are God, my only safe haven…. Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you live. There I will go to the altar of God, to God—the source of all my joy. I will praise you with my harp, O God, my God!

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God!
