FRC: How would the Pope vote? I have no idea, however . . . .

Peanut Gallery: It’s always a tenuous exercise when a member of one religious group presumes to explain the religious tenets of another religious group. Nevertheless, Tom McClusky (FRC) has ventured into this minefield.

His purpose is to prep Catholics for tonight’s Vice-Presidential Debate by providing a quasi-Catholic scorecard to rate the candidates. His effort is timely and to the point – since both vice-presidential candidates self-identify as Roman Catholics.

But does it past Roman Catholic muster? I’ll let you be the judge. Check it out – click here. For background documents – click here.

But we have tried to put together a document to give the decision for Catholics some perspective.

Many of you know how important every vote is this year, especially the Catholic vote. Here is a scorecard, from a Catholic perspective, on the two Vice Presidential candidates. And here you can find the accompanying document that goes further into Catholic Church teaching on each subject.

For the first time in American history, two Catholic vice presidential candidates are squaring off for America’s second highest office and while both Vice President Joe Biden and Representative Paul Ryan cite their shared faith in informing their positions, on many issues they could not be further apart.

To help clarify these differences in light of what the Catholic Church teaches, where they are permissible and where they are problematic, FRCAction has compiled a Catholic Voter guide. The guide is designed to help people of faith, Catholics as well as all Christians, Continue reading “FRC: How would the Pope vote? I have no idea, however . . . .”

Leaders at Assemblies of God USA, one of the largest Pentecostal denominations in the nation, say the country is facing a time of crisis like no other and are asking Christians to join them in a “7:14 Prayer Initiative” (based on 2 Chronicles 7:14) beginning today (Sept. 30) and continuing through the presidential election.

“Our nation faces unprecedented crises,” said Superintendent George O. Wood in a video message posted on the AG website. “Let’s not misuse our freedom by failing to vote on Election Day. Jesus called the Church to be salt and light in the world, and one of the ways to do this is by voting.”

Wood encourages Christians to “prayerfully and carefully” consider the candidates and issues in the November elections. He urges Christians to “bring biblical and moral values to bear on the pressing concerns of our day, including abortion, unemployment, gay marriage, education, religious freedom, war and other issues,” AG leaders stated.

Christians are also encouraged to set aside a few minutes each day to pray for the nation and its leaders. Continue reading “Assemblies of God Launches ‘7:14 Prayer Initiative’ Ahead of Presidential Election”

AU Attempts to Intimidate 60,000 Pastors (Public Catholic)

Warning Letter to 60,000 Pastors: We’re Watching What You Preach

September 29, 2012 By  9 Comments

Americans United for Separation of Church and State evidently sent copies of this letter to 60,000 pastors recently. It’s important to remember that Americans United is not an official agency of any governmental entity. This letter has no force of law and is just their opinion. Our local AU affiliate here in Oklahoma has sent similar letters to pastors in my House district in the past. The pastors I talked to about it tell me they threw it in the trash.

Please Pray for U.S. Christians

Peanut Gallery: This article, in brief, lays out the history of Government encroachment of religious freedom in America. It has been slow and steady for decades. But, now, the current administration has turned up the heat and believers are taking notice.

Why is this important? Because the more we suppress our expression of religious freedom at home, the less likely we are to advocate for religious freedom for others abroad. And if not Americans, who…?

How to Boil a Frog: They say that if you put a frog into a pot of boiling water, it will leap out right away to escape the danger. But, if you put a frog in a kettle that is filled with water that is cool and pleasant, and then you gradually heat the kettle until it starts boiling, the frog will not become aware of the threat until it is too late. The frog’s survival instincts are geared towards detecting sudden changes.

Rising Persecution of U.S. Christians

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Worthy News)– A joint report by Liberty Institute and the Family Research Council shows that anti-Christian persecution is not only increasing in America, but that it’s coming from our own government.

“There are children being prohibited from writing Merry Christmas to the soldiers, senior citizens being banned from praying over their meals in the Senior Center, the VA banning the mention of God in military funerals, numerous attempts to have veterans memorials torn down if they have any religious symbols, such as a cross, and I could go on and on,” said Liberty Institute Founder Kelly Shackleford.

“Religious hostility is the red light on the dashboard that tells us we have a problem and that violence will come next if not fixed,” Shackleford said. “The recent attacks on the faith-based Family Research Council and the attack on the Sikhs are recent examples alone.”

Many public facilities are also masking American Christianity, according to ACLJ senior counsel David French.

“One of the most strident examples: the misuse of the Establishment Clause to attempt to ban any mention of God from historical markers, monuments or even museum exhibits. This represents an effort to whitewash God from American history and change our national identity.”

French said that though the Obama administration has contributed to this, it didn’t begin with his inauguration; in fact, anti-Christian persecution has been stewing here in America for decades. Continue reading “Please Pray for U.S. Christians”

Who is Mitt Romney?

Peanut Gallery: I’m not really a big Romney fan… I voted for Gingrich when I had a chance here in the South Carolina primary… as a protest against the GOP Establishment.

But here I am and Romney is my only choice… if I care anything about Life, Religious Freedom, Family Values, Economic Solvency, and America as an exceptional nation – "a shining light on a hill." Oh… and did I mention Health Care, Education, Medicare, Social Security, Immigration, National Security, Israel and Judeo-Christian values. I know I've forgotten something….

So… I really have no choice but to vote for Romney (except not to vote at all, I suppose, which would be a total dereliction of public responsibility – as far as I'm concerned.) But who is Mitt Romney?

Why not let him tell you his own story… instead of relying on a hostile media and his deceiptful opposition? Here's a link to his home page – click here. Is he putting his best foot forward? Of course, there’s a lot at stake in this election. So filter what you read through honest skepticism.

But in the end you will not be able to escape the reality that Romney is an accomplished, essentially decent man with basic American values and a desire to restore the American dream. So check him out – maintain a healthy skepticism – and consider the alternative.

God help us!
