This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph, her fiancé, was a good man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly.

As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet:

“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”

When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.
__________

Prayer:

Immanuel, Jesus Savior: we wait expectantly for Your return – deliver us from evil and restore all creation to its intended perfection.

+ Thank You for loving each one of us personally in spite of ourselves.
+ Forgive us our abuse of freedom and release us from our bondage to sin.
+ Renew in us a joyful spirit that we may sing Your praises, especially as we celebrate Your birth.
+ Give us a humble heart and willing spirit that we may obey You, no matter how improbable the circumstances.

We offer You our lives today, Lord. You alone are worthy of our worship, be glorified in us Christ Jesus, only Son of the Father, who reigns with the Holy Spirit, one God forever. Amen.

Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey — riding on a donkey’s colt.

Rejoice greatly

I will remove the battle chariots from Israel and the warhorses from Jerusalem. I will destroy all the weapons used in battle, and your king will bring peace to the nations. His realm will stretch from sea to sea and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.

Because of the covenant I made with you, sealed with blood, I will free your prisoners from death in a waterless dungeon.
__________

Prayer:

King Jesus: Come and rescue me.
+ You alone are the righteous One – forgive me for trusting in my own goodness.
+ You alone are victorious – forgive me for trusting in my own abilities.
+ You come with power – forgive me for trusting in my own strength.
+ You come in humility – forgive my brashness.
+ You come in peace – forgive my testiness.

King Jesus: Save me from myself great God and Savior. Show me how to live joyfully, wisely and obediently so that I may honor You in all things. I look forward with hope to that wonderful day when Your glory will be revealed. Even so, come quickly Lord!

I will judge between one animal of the flock and another. And I will set over them one shepherd, my servant David. He will feed them and be a shepherd to them.
