Shame, shame: US Marriage rates at historic lows – USA Today

Peanut Gallery: USA Today reports –

U.S. marriage rates are at historic lows but may soon rebound a bit, demographers predict.

USA Today has moved into the “lipstick on a pig” category with this spin on what can only be seen as a tragic statistic.

The undisputed most important factor in child poverty and predicted social/educational failure is single parenting… specifically, absentee fathers.

The USA Today study alludes to education levels and the recession as factors. Perhaps… but only incidentally in my opinion. During the same time frame, cohabitation rates have soared to their highest levels.

The problem is the breakdown of traditional morality in American society.

Shame, shame…

U.S. marriage rates are at historic lows but may soon rebound a bit, demographers predict.

Story Highlights

+ Numbers are rising among women ages 25-34, the college-educated and the affluent

+ Declines likely to set in again at end of decade

+ Average marriage age for U.S. men could reach 30

The marriage rate is at its lowest point in more than a century, and the number of marriages across the USA fell more than 5% during the recession. But a new analysis projects that pent-up demand and the large population of marriage-eligible Millennials, ages 18-34, means more will be headed to the altar over the next two years.

Cultural changes about whether and when to marry, the fact that two-thirds of first marriages are preceded by cohabitation and the recession’s financial fallout — including unemployment and underemployment — fueled the wedding decline.

Peanut Gallery: So… what do you think of my new look?

cropped-cropped-cropped-20111103_peanutgallery5.jpg

I was having some trouble with my other format that I couldn’t (didn’t know how to) fix. So I decided to try a whole new look.  Voici!!

The idea is a cleaner… more stream-lined… magazine-like look.

I welcome any comments that you might have – if I’ve forgotten to include something basic… or something doesn’t work the way it should.

It’s the same me… but a little leaner… and friendlier. Let me know what you think.

2 Samuel 11:1-26

In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel. And they ravaged the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king’s house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful. And David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said, “Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” So David sent messengers and took her, and she came to him, and he lay with her. The danger of Christ without the cross

By Tom Quiner

The modern culture wants to strip away the Cross.

Nowhere is this seen more than in the critical social issues of the day: human abortion and so-called gay marriage.

A man and woman choose to engage in sexual intercourse. They’re not married. She gets pregnant. He doesn’t want a child. She doesn’t either, especially if he’s making a big fuss over the situation.

The modern culture says abort. It’s not a viable person yet. It’s okay.

The baby is the Cross, the inconvenience.

The modern culture says it’s not a Cross anyone should have to carry if they don’t want to. Laws have been passed to ensure that someone else, the child, carries the Cross alone.

A man is attracted to other men. His faith tells him not to act on them. But the culture says there is nothing wrong with it. Even more, the culture says…
