Peanut Gallery: Sometimes it is impossible for us to understand what other believers are going through. This Arab Christian woman tells her story of how God was her hiding place in her time of trouble.

Here is her story –

My grandfather was born in one village, grew up, got married and died in the same village. I was born in one city, and by the age of ten, I already had lived in three different countries and moved five times because my parents were looking for better job opportunities. After marriage, and by the age of thirty-five, I had already moved fifteen times mainly because of three different war situations in my home country!

“Are Christians fleeing Egypt? Some, yes. Nearly every church can name a family that has emigrated. Many more families desire to follow suit but cannot.

But the closer one looks, an irony emerges. Coptic leaders report that a significant number of Christians, especially in rural or poor communities, do fear the future. But many of the most ardently Christian—former Muslims who now follow Christ and have the most to lose under an Islamist government—are the most eager to stay. They hold to their love of country—and to their belief in God’s promise in Isaiah 19: “Blessed be Egypt my people.”

Peanut Gallery: Human beings have an infinite capacity for self-deception. Rebecca Hamilton ably describes the convoluted self-deception surrounding the horror of sex-selected abortion.

“The greatest lies of our times are the lies we tell ourselves to justify doing things that we know are wrong. What makes it work is that the whole culture conspires with us in the doing of it.”

Augustine and Calvin talked about “original sin” and “total depravity.” Theological discussion becomes a deadly reality in the most unlikely of places… a mother’s womb. Is there no hope for us?

Hebrews 4:16 says: “Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Run don’t walk… to the cross.
