After Pentecost | Friday 24 Oct 2025
+ In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen
Opening prayer:
Set us free, loving Father,
from the bondage of our sins,
and in your goodness and mercy
give us the liberty of that abundant life which you
have made known to us in our Savior Jesus Christ;
who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
“All who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus
will be persecuted….”
(2 Timothy 3:12)

From the Psalms: Psalm 65 – Poor Bishop Hooper
what mighty praise o god belongs to you
what mighty praise o god what mighty praise
we will fulfill the vows we’ve made to you
we will fulfill o god we will fulfill
oh to you who hear our prayers
oh to you who all men come
what mighty praise o god belongs to you
what mighty praise o god what mighty praise
though our sins prevail you forgive them all
how blessed is the one whom you choose to bring near to you
those who dwell within your holy courts
we will be satisfied with the goodness that awaits in your house
you answer prayers in faith with awesome deed
you answer prayers o god you answer prayers
you who are the trust of earth and sea
you are the trust oh god, you are the trust
you formed the mountains by your power
and armed yourself with strength on strength
you who still the roaring of the sea
you answer prayers o god you answer prayers
though our sins prevail you forgive them all
how blessed is the one whom you choose to bring near to you
those who dwell within your holy courts
we will be satisfied with the goodness that awaits in your house
even the ends of the earth they stand in awe
from where the sun rises to where it sets you bring shouts of joy
your visit makes the world to overflow
the river of our god is brimming up and bountiful
you settle its ridges you soften with showers
you bless its growth with fruit and abundance
paths drip with fatness as pastures blossom
you crown the year with a harvest oh so bountiful they all sing for joy

OT Reading: Joel 2:1-11 (ESV)
The Day of the Lord
2:1 Blow a trumpet in Zion;
sound an alarm on my holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble,
for the day of the Lord is coming; it is near,
a day of darkness and gloom,
a day of clouds and thick darkness!
Like blackness there is spread upon the mountains
a great and powerful people;
their like has never been before,
nor will be again after them
through the years of all generations.
2:3 Fire devours before them,
and behind them a flame burns.
The land is like the garden of Eden before them,
but behind them a desolate wilderness,
and nothing escapes them.
2:4 Their appearance is like the appearance of horses,
and like war horses they run.
As with the rumbling of chariots,
they leap on the tops of the mountains,
like the crackling of a flame of fire
devouring the stubble,
like a powerful army
drawn up for battle.
2:6 Before them peoples are in anguish;
all faces grow pale.
Like warriors they charge;
like soldiers they scale the wall.
They march each on his way;
they do not swerve from their paths.
They do not jostle one another;
each marches in his path;
they burst through the weapons
and are not halted.
They leap upon the city,
they run upon the walls,
they climb up into the houses,
they enter through the windows like a thief.
2:10 The earth quakes before them;
the heavens tremble.
The sun and the moon are darkened,
and the stars withdraw their shining.
The Lord utters his voice
before his army,
for his camp is exceedingly great;
he who executes his word is powerful.
For the day of the Lord is great and very awesome;
who can endure it?

NT Reading: 2 Timothy 3:10-15 (ESV)
3:10 You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me.
Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Jesus Loves Me | Souvenirs Worship
Jesus loves me this I know
For the bible tells me so
Little ones to Him belong
They are weak but He is strong
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so
Jesus loves me with His life
That He even chose to die
On the cross He thought of me
Now my song shall ever be
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so
Jesus loves me with no bounds
Greater love could not be found
When the doubts say something else
I will sing over myself
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so
Jesus loves me and I know
He is making me a home
When I stare into His eyes
I will say a billion times
I will say a billion times
I will say a billion times
Jesus I love You
Jesus I love You
Jesus I love You
Because You first loved me
Jesus I love You
Jesus I love You
Jesus I love You
Because You first loved me
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so
__________
Blessed Lord, who caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience and the comfort of your Holy Word we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Almighty God, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem: Thank you for your intervention in the release of the hostages from captivity; restore the souls of the living and comfort those who mourn the loss of the dead. Protect your people from the machinations of the evil one; and, as events continue to unfold, grant Israel’s leaders your heavenly wisdom, and the courage to do what’s right in your sight. Unite all your people around the common goal of restoration and peace, that they might return to you – the one true God – through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light rises up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what you would have us do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices; that in your light we may see light, and in your straight path we may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
