1st Sunday in Lent: Romans 10:9-11, 13 NLT – saved

Reading: Romans 10:9-11, 13 NLT

Jesus came to see us freeIf you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced….”

For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”

Prayer:  “Lord Jesus Christ, I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life. I ask your forgiveness and now turn from everything which I know is wrong. Thank you for dying on the cross for me to set me free from my sins. Please come into my life and fill me with your Holy Spirit and be with me forever. Thank you Lord Jesus, Amen.”

Ash Wednesday Reading: Joel 2.12-13 ESV – “return to me”

Reading: Joel 2.12-13 ESV

Ash Wednsday Cross“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.”

Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.

Prayer: Heavenly Father – I come to You, during this Lenten season, seeking Your grace… Your mercy… and Your love. Hear my prayer. Lord Jesus – You who was tempted in all things… yet without sin. Have compassion and mercy on me. Holy Spirit – Discern the thoughts and intents of my heart. Humble me before You… that I might serve You with all my heart. I ask it in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Scripture Song: “What If His People Prayed” – Casting Crowns (YouTube)

What if the armies of the Lord / Picked up and dusted off their swords / Vowed to set the captives free / And not let Satan have one more

What if the church for heaven’s sake / Finally stepped up to the plate / Took a stand upon God’s promise / And stormed hell’s rusty gates

What if His people prayed / And those who bear His name / Would humbly seek His face / And turn from their own way

And what would happen if we prayed / For those raised up to lead the way / Then maybe kids in school could pray / And unborn children see light of day

What if the life that we pursue / Came from a hunger for the truth / What if the family turned to Jesus / Stopped asking Oprah what to do

What if His people prayed / And those who bear His name / Would humbly seek His face / And turn from their own way

He said that they would hear / His promise has been made / He’s answered loud and clear, Yeah / If only we would pray

If My people called by My name / If they’ll humble themselves and pray / If My people called by My name / If they’ll humble themselves and pray

What if His people prayed / And those who bear His name / Would humbly seek His face, Yeah / And turn from their own way

He said that they would hear / His promise has been made / He’s answered loud and clear, Yeah / If only we would pray

What if His people prayed

“Vision of Isaiah 6.1-13”

In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.

And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”

Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father – Give us a glimpse of heaven as we come into your presence today. Lord Jesus – Take away our sin and heal our wandering hearts. Holy Spirit – Send us out as bearers of your Good News… into a sad and broken world. In all we do, may we honor you. Amen.

Sunday Reading: 1 Corinthians 13.4-7, 11-13 – love

Reading: 1 Corinthians 13.4-7, 11-13

christ-on-cross 2Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance….

When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

Three things will last forever — faith, hope, and love — and the greatest of these is love.

Prayer: Heavenly Father – Sometimes my life is confusing… I think I know what I know, and then I’m not so sure. The world of my childhood no longer exists and my values and life principles are being challenged on every front. Thank you for your steady hand guiding this world to its ultimate end – when “every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.” Lord Jesus – Thank you for showing me what love truly is by laying down your life for me even though I was far away from you. Holy Spirit – Help me live a life of love… putting others first, letting go of wrongs, upholding truth, optimistic and faithful. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Sunday Reading:1 Corinthians 12:12-14, 27 NLT – one Body

Reading:1 Corinthians 12:12-14, 27 NLT

“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.

Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.”

Prayer: one Lord, one faith, one baptism. Make us One Lord… for your Name’s sake. Amen.
