of our victorious god

shout for joy to the lord join the magnificent song
play a note and let your voice sing
as we praise the lord our king

let the sea resound and all within it
the world and all who live let the rivers clap their hands and the mountains
sing together for joy before the lord for he will come to
judge the earth in fairness and all will see he rules with justice

Moses Is Allowed to See Canaan

32:44 Moses came with Hoshea, son of Nun, and recited all the words of this song as the people listened. When Moses had finished reciting all these words to Israel, he said to them, “Pay attention to all these warnings I’ve given you today. Then you will command your children to faithfully obey every word of these teachings. Don’t think these words are idle talk. They are your life! By these words you will be able to live for a long time in the land that you are going to take possession of when you cross the Jordan River.”

10:42 Jesus called the apostles and said, “You know that the acknowledged rulers of nations have absolute power over people and their officials have absolute authority over people. But that’s not the way it’s going to be among you. Whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant. Whoever wants to be most important among you will be a slave for everyone. It’s the same way with the Son of Man. He didn’t come so that others could serve him. He came to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many people.”

+ Lord of Heaven’s Armies, we pray for swift justice and total victory over all evil in the Holy Land. Deliver the hostages from captivity and restore their souls. Destroy every stronghold of the evil death cult terrorizing the Middle East. This is what the Lord God says:

I, the Lord, have called you to do what is right.
I will take hold of your hand.
I will protect you.
I will appoint you as my promise  to the people,

You will give sight to the blind,

I am the Lord; that is my name.
I will not give my glory to anyone else

34:34 Then Peter said, “Now I understand that God doesn’t play favorites. Rather, whoever respects God and does what is right is acceptable to him in any nation. God sent his word to the people of Israel and brought them the Good News of peace through Jesus Christ. This Jesus Christ is everyone’s Lord. You know what happened throughout Judea. Everything began in Galilee after John spread the news about baptism. You know that God anointed Jesus from Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Jesus went everywhere and did good things, such as healing everyone who was under the devil’s power. Jesus did these things because God was with him. We can testify to everything Jesus did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. People hung him on a cross and killed him, but God brought him back to life on the third day. God didn’t show him to all the people. He showed Jesus to witnesses, apostles he had already chosen. We apostles are those men who ate and drank with Jesus after he came back to life. He ordered us to warn the people, ‘God has appointed Jesus to judge the living and the dead.’ In addition, all the prophets testify that people who believe in the one named Jesus receive forgiveness for their sins through him.”

Cornelius Has a Vision

10:1 A man named Cornelius lived in the city of Caesarea. He was a Roman army officer in the Italian Regiment. He and everyone in his home were devout and respected God. Cornelius gave many gifts to poor Jewish people and always prayed to God.

One day, about three in the afternoon, he had a vision. He clearly saw an angel from God come to him and say, “Cornelius!”

He stared at the angel and was terrified. Cornelius asked the angel, “What do you want, sir?”

The angel answered him, “God is aware of your prayers and your gifts to the poor, and he has remembered you. Send messengers now to the city of Joppa, and summon a man whose name is Simon Peter. He is a guest of Simon, a leatherworker, whose house is by the sea.”

After saying this, the angel left. Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier, one of those who served him regularly. Cornelius explained everything to them and sent them to Joppa.

Peter Has a Vision

10:9 Around noon the next day, while Cornelius’ men were on their way and coming close to Joppa, Peter went on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted to eat. While the food was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw the sky open and something like a large linen sheet being lowered by its four corners to the ground. In the sheet were all kinds of four-footed animals, reptiles, and birds.

A voice told him, “Get up, Peter! Kill these animals, and eat them.”

Peter answered, “I can’t do that, Lord! I’ve never eaten anything that is impure or unclean.”

A voice spoke to him a second time, “Don’t say that the things which God has made clean  are impure.”

This happened three times. Then the sheet was quickly taken into the sky.

While Peter was puzzled by the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found Simon’s house and went to the gate. They asked if Simon Peter was staying there. Peter was still thinking about the vision when the Spirit said to him, “Three men are looking for you. Get up, and go downstairs. Don’t hesitate to go with these men. I have sent them.”

So Peter went to the men. He said, “I’m the man you’re looking for. Why are you here?”

The men replied, “Cornelius, a Roman army officer, sent us. He’s a man who has God’s approval and who respects God. Also, the Jewish people respect him. A holy angel told him to summon you to his home to hear what you have to say.”

Peter asked the men to come into the house and had them stay overnight.

Peter Speaks with Cornelius

10:23 The next day Peter left with them. Some disciples from Joppa went along. The following day they arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called his relatives and close friends together.

When Peter was about to enter Cornelius’ house, Cornelius met him, bowed down, and worshiped Peter. But Peter made him get up. He told him, “Stand up! I’m only a man.”

As Peter talked, he entered Cornelius’ house and found that many people had gathered. He said to them, “You understand how wrong it is for a Jewish man to associate or visit with anyone of another race. But God has shown me that I should no longer call anyone impure or unclean. That is why I didn’t object to coming here when you sent for me. I want to know why you sent for me.”

Cornelius answered, “Four days ago I was praying at home. It was at this same time, three o’clock in the afternoon. Suddenly, a man dressed in radiant clothes stood in front of me. He said to me, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and has remembered your gifts to the poor. So send messengers to Joppa, and summon a man whose name is Simon Peter. He’s a guest in the home of Simon, a leatherworker who lives by the sea.’ So I sent for you immediately. Thank you for coming. All of us are here now in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has ordered you to say.”

Then Peter said, “Now I understand that God doesn’t play favorites.

65:17 I will create a new heaven and a new earth.
Past things will not be remembered.
They will not come to mind.
Be glad, and rejoice forever in what I’m going to create,
because I’m going to create Jerusalem to be a delight
and its people to be a joy.
I will rejoice about Jerusalem and be glad about my people.
Screaming and crying will no longer be heard in the city.
There will no longer be an infant who lives for only a few days
or an old man who doesn’t live a long life.
Whoever lives to be a hundred years old will be thought of as young.
Whoever dies before he is a hundred years old will be cursed as a sinner.
They will build houses and live there.
They will plant vineyards and eat fruit from them.
They will not build homes and have others live there.
They will not plant and have others eat from it.
My people will live as long as trees,
and my chosen ones will enjoy what they’ve done.
They will never again work for nothing.
They will never again give birth to children who die young,
because they will be offspring blessed by the Lord.
The Lord will bless their descendants as well.
Before they call, I will answer.
While they’re still speaking, I will hear.
Wolves and lambs will feed together,
lions will eat straw like oxen,
and dust will be food for snakes.
“They will not hurt or destroy anyone anywhere on my holy mountain,”

NT Reading: John 14:18-31 (GW)

14:18 “I will not leave you all alone. I will come back to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. You will live because I live. On that day you will know that I am in my Father and that you are in me and that I am in you. Whoever knows and obeys my commandments is the person who loves me. Those who love me will have my Father’s love, and I, too, will love them and show myself to them.”

Judas (not Iscariot) asked Jesus, “Lord, what has happened that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?”

Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will go to them and make our home with them. A person who doesn’t love me doesn’t do what I say. I don’t make up what you hear me say. What I say comes from the Father who sent me.

“I have told you this while I’m still with you. However, the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything. He will remind you of everything that I have ever told you.

“I’m leaving you peace. I’m giving you my peace. I don’t give you the kind of peace that the world gives. So don’t be troubled or cowardly. You heard me  tell you, ‘I’m going away, but I’m coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I’m going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.

“I’m telling you this now before it happens. When it does happen, you will believe. The ruler of this world has no power over me. But he’s coming, so I won’t talk with you much longer. However, I want the world to know that I love the Father and that I am doing exactly what the Father has commanded me to do. Get up! We have to leave.”

32:9 Get up, and listen to me, you pampered women.
Hear what I say, you overconfident daughters.
In a little less than a year
you overconfident women will tremble,
because the grape harvest will fail
and no fruit will be brought in ⌞from the fields⌟.
Shudder, you pampered women.
Tremble, you overconfident women.
Take off your clothes, walk around naked,
and wear sackcloth around your waists.
Beat your breasts as you mourn for the fields,
for the vines bearing grapes.
Mourn for my people’s land where thorns and briars will grow.
Mourn for all the happy homes in a joyful city.
Palaces will be deserted.
Noisy cities will be abandoned.
Fortresses and watchtowers will become permanent caves.
They will be a delight for wild donkeys and pastures for flocks
until the Spirit is poured on us from on high.
Then the wilderness will be turned into a fertile field,
and the fertile field will be considered a forest.
Then justice will live in the wilderness,
and righteousness will be at home in the fertile field.
Then an act of righteousness will bring about peace,
calm, and safety forever.
My people will live in a peaceful place,
in safe homes and quiet places of rest.
The forest will be flattened because of hail,
and the city will be completely leveled.
Blessed are those who plant beside every stream
and those who let oxen and donkeys roam freely.
