Morning Prayer

+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

O come, Thou Key of David, come, And open wide our heavenly home; Make safe the way that leads on high, And close the path to misery. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel, Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Morning readings

Isaiah 26:1-6 NLT:

In that day, everyone in the land of Judah will sing this song:

Our city is strong! We are surrounded by the walls of God’s salvation. Open the gates to all who are righteous; allow the faithful to enter. You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock. He humbles the proud and brings down the arrogant city. He brings it down to the dust. The poor and oppressed trample it underfoot, and the needy walk all over it.

Psalm 118:1, 8-9, 19-21, 25-27a NLT:

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.

Open for me the gates where the righteous enter, and I will go in and thank the Lord. These gates lead to the presence of the Lord, and the godly enter there. I thank you for answering my prayer and giving me victory!

Please, Lord, please save us. Please, Lord, please give us success. Bless the one who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord. The Lord is God, shining upon us.

Matthew 7:21, 24-27 NLT:

“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Reflection/Prayer:

Mighty God – Guard my heart with the strong walls of Your saving mercies as I await the coming of Emmanuel in glory. Grant me the peace found in trusting You and following as You lead. Give me a willing spirit and obedient heart… that my life may be built on the solid rock of faithfulness. And fill me with the joy of the season… as I await the celebration of Your birth. May I honor You in all things. Amen.

Canticle

Christ, as a light… illumine and guide me. Christ, as a shield… overshadow me. Christ under me; Christ over me; Christ beside me on my left and my right.
