Peanut Gallery: Why am I re-posting this article? To ask you to pray for ordinary Arab people… specifically those who have no say in anything that’s going on in their country – the poor, most of the women, non-Muslims and the indentured expats who are mostly from Asia.

Since the beginning of time, this part of the world has always been ruled by power elites of one sort or another. Ordinary people are simply cogs in the wheel to be used and abused “as Allah wills.” Meanwhile in the corridors (or tents) of power, the ruling elites make money hand over fist “as Allah wills.”

This culture of Islamic fatalism keeps “ordinary people” in their place, and frees the power elites to jockey for their share of pie “as Allah wills.”

Proverbs 29.18 KJV captures the essence of the problem –

“Where there is no vision, the people perish”

This article gives a fair overview (I think) of the current sad state of affairs in the Middle East.

No National Vision

Real power sharing requires a commitment by politicians and publics to a national vision designed to further the common good and respected institutions that govern political behavior. None of this is yet evident.

Instead, the Arabs have organized themselves into corporatist entities—military, tribes, Islamists of varying persuasions, minorities, Shia—each determined to protect their own.
