After Pentecost | Friday 24 May 2024: Psalm 29; Isaiah 2:1-5; Romans 8:9-11 ~ Live with God’s approval.

After Pentecost | Friday 24 May 2024

+ In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening:

Almighty God, on Pentecost,
through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit,
you revealed the way of eternal life to every race and nation:
Pour out this gift anew, that by the preaching of the Gospel
your salvation may reach to the ends of the earth;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

“If Christ lives in you,
your bodies are dead because of sin,
but your spirits are alive
because you have God’s approval.”
(Romans 8:10)

The Lord Will Teach the Nations

2:1 This is the message which Isaiah, son of Amoz, saw about Judah and Jerusalem.

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s house
will be established as the highest of the mountains
and raised above the hills.
All the nations will stream to it.
Then many people will come and say,
“Let’s go to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways so that we may live by them.”

The teachings will go out from Zion.
The Lord’s word will go out from Jerusalem.
Then he will judge disputes between nations
and settle arguments between many people.
They will hammer their swords into plowblades
and their spears into pruning shears.
Nations will never fight against each other,
and they will never train for war again.

Come, descendants of Jacob,
let’s live in the light of the Lord.

NT Reading: Romans 8:9-11 (GW)

8:9 But if God’s Spirit lives in you, you are under the control of your spiritual nature, not your corrupt nature.

Whoever doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ doesn’t belong to him. However, if Christ lives in you, your bodies are dead because of sin, but your spirits are alive because you have God’s approval. Does the Spirit of the one who brought Jesus back to life live in you? Then the one who brought Christ back to life will also make your mortal bodies alive by his Spirit who lives in you.

Prayer: ACNA | BCP2019

+Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but  the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the  Prince of Peace; to whom be dominion and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

+ Sovereign Lord: We pray for the peace of Jerusalem – in Jesus’ Name.

    • Protect Israel from the fiery darts of the evil one coming from every direction, both within and without.
    • Grant your heavenly wisdom to those guiding Israel militarily, politically, diplomatically; give them hearts to receive, and the courage to do, what’s right in your sight.
    • Comfort those who grieve and mourn the loss of loved ones, and rebuke those who would use grief for evil purposes.
    • Bring swift and certain justice to all those complicit in the Oct 7th atrocities; deliver the hostages from captivity, and restore their souls.
    • Send your heavenly hosts to destroy every stronghold of the evil death cult terrorizing the Middle East.
    • And strengthen the Messianic communities – Jew and Arab alike – that they may be a source of help, healing, and hope; use them in restoring your people to their proper place in your Kingdom.

+ Heavenly Father, you have promised to hear what we ask in the Name of your Son: Accept and fulfill our petitions,  we pray, not as we ask in our ignorance, nor as we deserve in our sinfulness, but as you know and love us in your Son  Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
