Easter Season | Wednesday 24 Apr 2024

+ In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening:

O God, whose Son Jesus Christ
is the Good Shepherd of your people:
Grant that, when we hear his voice,
we may know him who calls us each by name,
and follow where he leads; who,
with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Who is a God like you?
You forgive sin
and overlook the rebellion of your faithful people.
(Micah 7:18a)

From Psalms: Psalm 95:Poor Bishop Hooper

oh come let us sing to the lord
let us make joyful noise to the rock
of our salvation let us come unto him
with thanksgiving and songs of praise

in his hand are the depths of the earth
the heights of the mountains
the sea is his formed by his hands
and the dry land he made it

oh come let us sing to the lord
let us make joyful noise to the rock
of our salvation let us come unto him
with thanksgiving and songs of praise

this day if you hear his voice
do not harden your hearts
as the day in the wilderness
as your fathers did

oh come let us worship and bow
let us kneel down before our maker
for he is god and we are the people
the sheep of his pasture

OT Reading: Micah 7:8-20 (GW)

7:8 Don’t laugh at me, my enemies.
Although I’ve fallen, I will get up.
Although I sit in the dark, the Lord is my light.
I have sinned against the Lord.
So I will endure his fury
until he takes up my cause and wins my case.
He will bring me into the light,
and I will see his victory.
Then my enemies will see this, and they will be covered with shame,
because they asked me, “Where is the Lord your God?”
Now I look at them.
They are trampled like mud in the streets.

The day for rebuilding your walls
and extending your borders is coming.
When that day comes, your people will come to you
from Assyria and the cities of Egypt,
from Egypt to the Euphrates River,
from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain.
The earth will become a wasteland for those who live on it
because of what the people living there have done.

With your shepherd’s staff, take care of your people,
the sheep that belong to you.
They live alone in the woods, in fertile pastures.
Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead like before.
Let us see miracles
like the time you came out of Egypt.
Nations will see this and be ashamed in spite of all their strength.
They will put their hands over their mouths.
Their ears will become deaf.
They will lick dust like snakes,
like animals that crawl on the ground.
They will come out of their hiding places trembling.
They will turn away from your presence in fear, O Lord our God.
They will be afraid of you.
Who is a God like you?
You forgive sin
and overlook the rebellion of your faithful people.
You will not be angry forever,
because you would rather show mercy.
You will again have compassion on us.
You will overcome our wrongdoing.
You will throw all our sins into the deep sea.
You will be faithful to Jacob.
You will have mercy on Abraham
as you swore by an oath to our ancestors long ago.

NT Reading: Mark 14:26-31 (GW)

14:26 After they sang a hymn, they went to the Mount of Olives.

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

14:27 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will abandon me. Scripture says,

‘I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered.’

“But after I am brought back to life, I will go to Galilee ahead of you.”

Peter said to him, “Even if everyone else abandons you, I won’t.”

Jesus said to Peter, “I can guarantee this truth: Tonight, before a rooster crows twice, you will say three times that you don’t know me.”

But Peter said very strongly, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never say that I don’t know you.” All the other disciples said the same thing.

Prayer: ACNA | BCP2019

+ Almighty God, you have not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities; grant that we, who for our evil deeds deserve  to be punished, by the might of your grace may mercifully be relieved; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy  Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

+ Lord of Heaven’s Armies, we pray for swift justice and total victory over all evil in the Holy Land. Deliver the hostages from captivity and restore their souls. Destroy every stronghold of the evil death cult terrorizing the Middle East. And grant your heavenly wisdom to those guiding Israel militarily, politically, diplomatically – and especially to those who will restore Israel spiritually – through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

+ Most loving Father, you will us to give thanks for all things, to dread nothing but the loss of you, and to cast all our care on the One who cares for us.  Preserve us from faithless fears and worldly anxieties, and grant that no clouds of this mortal life may hide from us the light of that love which is  immortal, and which you have manifested unto us in your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
